AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

I still have a 7990 so I know where you're at and agree in what you expect from the 295.

I was up for one of the x295's but I'd have to give it some serious consideration of how much ball aching is required to get it to run how it should.

Just goes to show the AMD card performances are an 'up to' figure and Nvidia's 9 series cards are a minimum figure and they OC well for gurateed more performance.

I could understand if it only went back to the 947Mhz core clock but yours goes back to the 800's. So it's not a 5% perf decrease but up to 15% from boost clocks.

That'd make me go green ater already owning a 7990 too.

If you do send it back then go for a pair of 970's, it's a nice combo :)

Whats the performace difference between a 295x2 & 2x 970's ?

My 295 is working ok, not happy with the fan setup I've had to use to keep GPU temps under 70c though, putting all the hot air into the case then exhausting through the front is not ideal IMO.

I still have 10 days on my DSR to return the card & swop for 2x 970's. Would like 2x 980's but can't justify the additional cost. :(

Just got a Piranha myself...will likely only get to install it over the weekend or next week though.

I also don't really want the hot air inside the case, and usually get temps of 72 degrees with the stock fan and a Viper R exhausting (with an undervolt). No, you shouldn't have to undervolt but it's so easy to do it's not an issue for me. So it doesn't throttle in any game I play, but I'm interested to see if the Piranha helps shave a couple of degrees off the temp...

Pretty weird crash in bf4 just now, got a message saying something about the display port connection not being able to support the resolution (5760x1080) and it would resize the game to a lower resolution. Then the game just craps out with a dx error. Mind you both cores were pegged at 74c pretty much the entire game, wonder if its now affecting stability?

Can anyone remind me how vram usage is measured in afterburner, do you half what it says to give a true reading?

Yeah with crossfire you half it.

Does anyone know what the screws are that you use with the radiator? I seem to have misplaced one so I only have it secured with 3 screws :/ I need to figure out where to buy some from. They seem about the same size as the ones that come with my Corsair H105. Just a little smaller on the head.

Maybe AMDMatt knows and can point me somewhere to find them :)

I use mine from the old H50 :) same size indeed.

All the screws are standard size more or less.

Oh that's good to know! I just ordered a hydro series screw pack. Cost me £16 but at least it won't be precariously fixed by 3 screws. I was just wary of not wanting to damage the threads or such even if they looked similar but I know that Corsair use Asetek stuff so. Yeah.

Is it safe to replace the default fan? I'd like to use a Corsair SP120 PWM to match the rest of my system. Will the fans RPMs scale properly still? I noted I can't control it in the CCC.

It's running much better than the 290X crossfire anyhow. No instability or wonky ness. Pretty quiet, and pretty cool. Looks nice too! (Windowed case). Only issue I have is that it *hates* my RoG Swift. I can only run 60hz. Anything over causes flickering and display port failures.

EDIT: Fixed the refresh issue. The included adapter isn't very good, and was causing it.

I replaced the default fan with an SP120 but it makes an annoying "tick" noise. Well, more like a cricket. I am not sure if its faulty or due to the voltage. Hmm. What is everyone else using (those who changed the default one). I imagine there will be a few more 295X2 owners with the price drop this week too.

I have GS Series™ GS800 — 80 PLUS® Bronze Certified Power Supply “2013 Edition” ,is going to be ok?

Some one know where can I sell my old card? ( I am from London).

2xMagma at 50% speed while playing games that do not demand much process power. If they do I raise the fan to 75% (eg Crysis 3, Beyond Earth)
And that at 1100/1625 speeds constantly. (temps never go above 62)

@thokkiano

I do not know. I bought a 1000W Gold Superflower to go with it. However you should be able to do so, but do not expect much on overclocking if at all.
And is Bronze yours, but should be OK. Depending the card if lucky you can undervolt it for stock speeds.

Just got my dispatch confirmation so I'll be joining the club soon :)
At < 500quid there should be quite a few of these getting dispatched!

I'm in. Any thoughts on a Corsair RM1000 powering one of these and a normal 290 tri-fire setup? Cutting it pretty fine?

Tri-fire. Interesting thought :D hehe. How does it work when the card is different though? I heard you can crossfire different cards.

Tbh I'm not sure why NVIDIA restrict it to the same GPU and also why they need that physical link still. If AMD can do it?

I was interested in getting an NVIDIA GPU just for PhysX but I read NVIDIA disabled that option :/

I think 1000W might be pushing it though still. You're probably looking at 1200w at least. The 295x2 draws 28a per cable.

I don't the tech stuff behind crossfire to be honest. I know the 290 series uses new tech (XDMA?) that just syncs over the PCI-E lanes instead of a physical bridge, I know it's a big improvement for frame pacing, and I know it utilises the compatible cards properly even if they aren't an exact match.

But it's one of those things I just have to put down to "magic", cos I don't understand :)

I'll give the 1000w a go, and if it comes up short I'll just have to pick up a black friday superflower.

Can I join the club please ? Ive got 2 of these cards being delivered tomorrow. I'm going to mount both rads as intakes on the front panel of a Corsair 750D with the fans blowing cold air onto the rads. Is this the correct way to set them up ?
