AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

I believe thats the one with the 6 rails, of which they can do 30A but only 70A all 6 combined yes?

Tough question imho and depending what you have connected and how much A you consume already, since you need 2 x 28A per 8pin socket, but 50A combined for the 295X2.

If you trully want a 295X2 and believe me is a fantastic card, especially overclocked, buy one, try to fit each socket to different rail and power up.

If it doesn't work, buy a 1000W superflower single rail PSU, if it works happy days :)
More likely it will work, if there are no issues with the PSU, since the 295X2 needs 50A combined, and 2 rails on your PSU will provide that.
Yeah I understand. Might be a problem though as I can't find any of the modular PCI-E cables for it. Im probably going to have to buy one seperately...

I believe some fans can have some issues running directly from the card though as at low temps it runs the fans very slowly and some fans start to 'click' as the voltage drops too low for them.

I'm running one on a old corsair tx750w psu so I've probably got the bare minimum. It's one single 12v rail though, not split like your one.

Yeah, it doesn't look like I can find my modular PCI-E cable, so it looks like im going to need a new PSU.

Can anyone recommend a PSU to run this card around £100? Im thinking SuperFlower 850W

Good choice. SuperFlower/Leadex are my recommended PSU. Used many of their models and even the bog standard Gold models were flawless.

Yeah, im not willing to try running the card on my Enermax without the modular PCI-E cable. I'm pretty certain it wont work, and I don't want to end up damaging the card in the process

Out of curiosity has anyone used any red led fans that work fine being controlled by the card. Improved performance over stock would be nice but as long as they aren't any worse I could live with that just to match the rest of my fans :)

Really!?? How come??

Not trying to dissuade you m8, they're absolute quality cards!!

I fancy a change and well, the 295x2 looks so nice. That Red Led Radeon logo is calling me, x2. The chance to have QuadFire in silence is just too good an opportunity to miss.

I may sell my 4x290X 4GB cards to help the funding and keep my 8GB 290X cards for games that are greedy on the video memory.

The 295x2 x2 Radeon Led will look lovely in the Carbide 540 window.

I'm tempted to join you Matt (though only one card). I don't feel a single 290X cuts it at 1440p sometimes.
I dislike the closed loop cooling with the 295X2 though.

Well it seems likely I'm going to do it Tom, so I'll let you know how i find it and if i encounter any issues. It will be interest accommodating two inside a Carbide 540. But hey it has a window so it should look mint.

I was thinking about having one at the top rear blowing out and one at the middle front blowing out. I intend to put 2xNoctua Industrials on each rad so run at low speed.

Just deciding whether i should sell my 4x290X reference cards or hang onto them for old times sake.

Well that's fairy muff m8! Although I think 'silent' will be pushing it, the x2 is def a LOT quieter than my Tri-X 290's in Crossfire (which weren't too bad at all to be fair)

Will look nice coming through that window ;)

Thinking about switching back to my 540 when the Corsair H110i GT is released, need to upgrade my cpu cooling S.T.A.T!

Phanteks Enthoo Primo Black/Red is calling me though...

Yes I've got my eyes on the GT too.

I was hoping to use two fans on the rad but have them running quietly. I will likely leave the 295x2 at stock and undervolt as much as possible. With Quad overclocking is never needed anyway assuming the game is of good enough standard to benefit from multi gpu.

Wont not overclocking affect your benchmark scores though?

And surely if you do then it won't be as good as 4 x 290Xs?

Yes for sure I'll be losing benchmarking points, but I'm spending more time gaming these days and less time benching so fancy a change. However when i do game my cards are at stock, so i figure why not get something that runs a bit quieter and cooler and have a nice shiny Radeon logo at the same time.
