AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Well it seems likely I'm going to do it Tom, so I'll let you know how i find it and if i encounter any issues. It will be interest accommodating two inside a Carbide 540. But hey it has a window so it should look mint.

I was thinking about having one at the top rear blowing out and one at the middle front blowing out. I intend to put 2xNoctua Industrials on each rad so run at low speed.

Just deciding whether i should sell my 4x290X reference cards or hang onto them for old times sake.
Cheers, I will be looking forward to your results if you go ahead with it :)

I imagine it would get pretty toasty in the case without a side fan.

Matt I knew it ! You know this was going to happend when 8pack showed his 2kW psu...I was just expecting you to say oh btw going 2x295x2 yea ! raw power...insane

Btw got something special in my mind for all 295x2 users (with stock water coller) with help of stulid, I will test it and make some cool photos hopefully soon

silly question...is there a way to do 3x295x2 ? I assume you need custom water loop for that but......

Yes I've got my eyes on the GT too.

I was hoping to use two fans on the rad but have them running quietly. I will likely leave the 295x2 at stock and undervolt as much as possible. With Quad overclocking is never needed anyway assuming the game is of good enough standard to benefit from multi gpu.

Sweet ;)

Not really tried clocking mine, but I'm undervolting by -55mV and had no issues so far. Also running a max of 62/63c in games so quite happy with that! Looping Firestrike for 45/60mins tops me out at 67c, so again I'm pleased with the temps :D

Interesting, any chance of a spoiler?

I think i may get a new case for 2x295's as i don't think a dual fan setup on the 295x2 rad will work in a 540 as the 295x2 will be too long.

Looking at a 750D for the extra space.

Yeah, the 540 isn't the best cooling-wise either. Might have mentioned but I'm considering a Phanteks case as my next one (The Primo Black/Red is winning at present), nothing wrong with the R4 tbf but I just fancy a chunky AiO

2 295x2's would look sweeeeeet with a windowed case and matching mobo etc :D

Yes for sure I'll be losing benchmarking points, but I'm spending more time gaming these days and less time benching so fancy a change. However when i do game my cards are at stock, so i figure why not get something that runs a bit quieter and cooler and have a nice shiny Radeon logo at the same time.

Are you going to be gaming or looking at logos? :)

What you need is custom watercooling. Then you get great looks, great temps and great overclocking with little noise!

You having custom loop on them Matt? Or just the ones that come with the single rad.

Would a good 1200watt handle 2x295's?

I have the 760T case. With 2 x 290 msi lightings. I changed all the fans now. Top card runs at 72 now, bottom card 63, that's 50 mins game play on bf4 and the fans hardly go mad, the case fans I changed out for, do good job, and not loud at all..

You must show some pics when it's all done :D

I want the Red Logo's, just can't resist. :D :o

Gaming whilst i look at red led Radeon logos. :D

2000W is going to be my new PSU but a decent 1200W PSU will be plenty. I bet a HQ 1000W SuperFlower Platinum PSU would be fine for a stock 2x295x2 setup.

Didn't TTL find that 2 x 295x2 drew around 1300W+ in 6-core IB-E system?

EDIT:
Also, gaming on a 2 x 295x2 system? Isn't that only 4GB VRAM? You not playing at 4K anymore?
You were saying how 4GB isn't enough for 4K not too long ago. In fact you were gonna do graphs or something to show the difference. Remember to do that before you get rid of the 4GB 290Xs!

Funny you say that, i watched a bit of that video today. Toms3D managed it without issue though on a bog standard 1000W Bronze PSU, so i guess your mileage may vary. :)

EDIT

I'm keeping my 4x290X 8GB cards for my games that use more than 4GB at 4K.

I can run those tests with my 295 cards. :)

Well, I've managed to fit my 295x2 into a very tight case :/ pictures soon...

Looking forward to it, which case?

I'm going to ditch my Carbide 540 and get a 750D for the 2x295x2's. I'll miss the 540, it was a good case. Annoyingly i did not long ago pay for the expensive dust filters for it, but them's the breaks i guess.

Matt, what's the scaling like with Quadfire these days? Decent??

Tempted myself

Godly at 4K, lower than that not sure. Will likely come down to a number of factors including game support, cpu threading optimisation and raw cpu ghz speed.

I will try to put up some scaling numbers when i get the cards, that will be a fun project to do.

But that won't be an apples vs. apples comparison. 2 x 295x2s may not work as well as 4 x 290Xs in general (or they may work better).

I think what you'll have to do is build another PC for the 4 x 4GB 290Xs so that you can compare all 3. You've already got a case for it :)
It's the only way to be sure!
Scientific process demands that you have to build that 3rd PC, it's sort of out of your hands...

What would say is a better bet psu wise for a setup like this then, a 1300w Gold or the 1000w Platinum Superflower units?

It'll probably never happen but I would love a second one to go with my current one, more likely to just try and grab a cheap secondhand 290 for trifire though.

Ha. You know GM, the reason i never really got round to this test is that the 290X 8GB cards i have use Elpida memory and they have a stock speed of 1010/1375 mhz so i knew the comparison would never be that useful. Shame as i was looking forward to doing it. However at least the 295x2 will have Hynix memory, same as my reference 4GB cards.
