AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Depends on the silicon lottery but I've undervolted mine by 15mv and I've also overclocked it to 1025/1550 so could probably undervolt it a bit more at stock.

The overclocking is pretty pointless, only a slight gain in benchmarks and nothing noticable in games but it just doesn't seem right to have a card running at stock when I know it could be overclocked :D

Mine happily worked in Crysis 3 at -30mV on 1440p Very High for a good session, so it's worth a try. It made about 1 degree of difference to temps I think, but I wasn't exactly measuring in a controlled environment.

On the subject of throttling, I found that even exhausting through mesh on my case reduced airflow enough to throttle my card. I removed the mesh and it has never throttled since. Check there is an absolute minimum of obstruction to the rad as it exhausts the hot air.

Is that just for aesthetic reasons or will separating them cool the card more efficiently?

When the warm water goes trough one tube and the cold trough the other and they are touching the cold tube might get a bit warmer, this is an unconfirmed theory, but it makes logical sense..

Is anyone using fan controllers to control the fan speed?
Software or manual mechanical fan controller ?

So im now the owner of a 295X2. Placed the order this morning, so hopefully I'll have it all up and running tomorrow. Just have to hope my 850W Enermax has enough juice for it :D

I just got two and i have to say, it's a lovely card. Reeks of quality!

I'm surprised how quiet the radiator fan is, takes some getting used to coming from the reference models.

Mine throttles, sadly.

I think it's a bit of a lottery. Case has plenty of airflow and space.

It's better than the first one that I had to RMA though because that literally throttled in 1 minute.

This at least takes time to get to max temps.

I don't have a lot of experience with these cards yet, but have you tried lowering the stock voltage? I've already got mine safely down to -0.050v and i think i can go further. Definitely binned chips these. :)

How did you mount the rad? Initially I had mine horizontally in the top of the case, but I've moved it vertically (with the pipes at the bottom) behind the CPU cooler, and I've not really seen any throttling since. It gave me only a small difference in temps, but just enough.

Funnily enough my friend Sgt.Bilko (hey if you're reading :D) recommended i switch my rads from the tubes at the top to the tubes at the bottom to improve temps. I'm going to try that today/tomorrow or when i get time. :)

Yeah, we had all this discussion when I first got the card.

Always been mounted at the rear with the pipes down.

I will try undervolting...

Let me know how you get on.

I bought a couple of these today to replace the stock fan and run push pull. The idea is to get things as silent as possible.

I'm missing the reference cooler though, i won't lie. :p
