AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

it's connected by display port (monitor) to mini display port and it's a dell cable which came with the monitor.

think i've tried everything..

Change the DP connection, if you are using the one next to DVI. Someone else was experiencing some issues with that port, but had connected DVI monitor also though.

Also did you try to switch the BIOS? there is a switch on the card. Just in case turn it, and see. Or else RMA it :(

just wondering what sort of score should i get with my system/setup on valley 1.0

i7 4770k oc'd to 4.4 with a cosair h100 cooler
maximus 6 hero board with 8 gig of ram
1300 psu evga supernova
sapphier 9 295 at stock speeds
240 gb ssd
am useing the amd 14.7 beat drivers
asus 28 inch 4k monitor

used the system for 3 hours of rome 2 and afterburner said the card never hit past 60 temp wise.

In bf 4 with mantel running with all on ultra the ingame fps reader says i am hitting on average 62 fps.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated :)

At 1080p Extreme you should be looking for around 5100 with 14.8 WHQL drivers.

So i just got the 14.8 beat drivers and installed them . i was hopeing to get atleast 5000 on valley in 1080p but i managed to get 4354 :/.

I went to test out fps in bf4 and something really weird happened. In the menu screen my mouse pointer is 2 inchs of from where the menu is highlighted. So I cant click on 1/2 of the menu, but when i leave the menu and go back into the game the cursor reacts to where it should be .

Same in wow I cant click any menu functions at all. I have tried 3 diffrent mice and they are all doing it ! any ideas what is going on ?

Someone else can help you with the BF4.

I will only help you seeing that you get 4354 on Valley. I had this score when my rad was on the wrong position and the card was throttling due to heat.

To assist you we need a description of where your rad is and how is positioned. (photo would do it).

Also download MSI AB and tell us the idle and load temps, along with the settings you run the card with. Use the MSI Overlay Monitor to see how the card behaves while in games (top left corner will give you the stats you have selected like usage, core speed and temp)
Also disable ULPS and basically check everything on the settings tab.
We are here to help :)

Here are the overlay and my settings to give you an idea

Dont have any photo sites i can post to atm i will open 1 tomorrow.

I ran valley twice with your settings and i got 4520 and 4600 so a little bit of an improvement. Afterburnner said the temps at full load were gpu 1 67 gpu2 66. At idle they are 36c. ULPS is unchecked and everything else is ;)

I have mounted the radiator to the back top mounting in my phantom 630 case. The cooling hoses are at the bottom of the fan and are 3 inchs away from the actual gpu itself. My h100 cooler for my cpu is mounted in the top of the case.

Any more ideas Panos ? and thanks for the help cause god knows i need it with this card

You used the overlay to keep an eye on the core & temps while valley was running? Also you need to disable the UPLS.
Also does your motherboard support PCI3? Can you check with GPU-Z that is on?

MSI Settings

Realised today that I made a mistake buying this card......... My gpu isn't going to heat up the room any more, as they did over the past few years. :D:D
(pretty cold outside)

@ßeorn good luck mate :/ lets hope they have one to replace it with.

reckon its worth investing in a better fan for the r9? From what I can tell ab says it's hitting 70c tops after 1 hour of valley .Ab is running at 1000ms settings. Every now and then the gpus drop to 50 percent for a few secs when the temp is reading 68 then they jump upto 90+.

They keeps fluxing every every 5-6 seconds so I guess my case is just not getting the air out fast enough.

Initially you said the 4770K is running at 4.4Ghz. Unfortunately is running at 3.5Ghz according to the Valley screenshot, hence the low scores also.

Thanks, typical red and black theme for AMD :)

Around 50c. Disabling ULPS allowed me to push it to 1190, before that I couldn't get above 1110.

Mate, I am very jealous. :o

I have to wait for December to sort out my watercooling. :(

Please, try to put it to 1200 and put your name on the leaderboards for Valley and Heaven also :D

You should be very close to Kaapstad at 1200 oc.

Btw do you use the Sapphire old Bios? If so, where can i find it?
(someone else did but no link to get it.....)

I'm using the stock bios at the moment, Ati (1002). I managed to find the sapphire oc bios on another forum for the master and slave core but not tried it yet. As it should allow me to increase memory above 1625. I'm not sure it will allow me to push the cores any further though.

Few pages back someone under water, had the card to 1200/1650 with that old bios and was going to push more.

But we haven't heard since. Probably managed to hit 1300 and had a heart attack from the sheer shock of extra POWERRRRR. (or too addicted to the extra power and cannot bother to give us an update, I know happens :D)

I might give it a go tonight with the Sapphire OC bios. Will let you know findings if I do.

Do these cards have a dual bios? As in 2 per core, because I read you need to flash a the Master core then the Slave core. Just wondering if that switch on the side allows you to switch bios's.

There is a switch on the board to switch the Bios. Try it first

how did someone get beyond 1100mhz without running out of power from the two 8pin plugs?

I got to 1135 and heat is my limit with just 50% PL over stock (0mV).
And fails at scene 8 on Valley at 1190 with +10mV due to heat. (basically it starts throttling and I just stop it).

Also with most of us running them at -70mV, (some lucky one at -100), means they are the best of the best 290X chips ever came out of production.

See my score on Valley. At 1135/1625, I am far higher than many who have clocked their 290X CF at 1250!!!!, and have far superior CPUs.

** Any image wider than 1280 pixels should be linked or placed in spoiler tags **

1210/1690.... R9295X2...
Full waterblock EK + back plate.

52c max load.

----------------------------------------------

minimums are low due to a hdd load, should have used my ssd lol
but anyway good none the less :)

Good one mate. EPIC. :D:D:D:D

Btw check once more, because it seems something was running on the background, and you have the low fps. (or is your CPU is running at 4Ghz?).

Regardless EPIC :D
And some said, that the 295X2 cannot be clocked because of the power limitations...........pffff

Go post it to the leaderboard :D

I think it's more a case that the power limitation can cause throttling which can negate the benefit of overclocking.

If power was limitation, it could have run out of steam long before by not getting 239 max fps, and of course not been able to beat 290 CF at 1250.

The guy almost caught Kaapstad by 11 point @ 1210 against Kaaps @ 1240 (6 core CPU at 4.9ghz also), and is 140 points behind Gibbo 3CF setup @ 1225.

That is truly impressive for a single card.

True.
I think we need a lot more examples of this those so we can confirm this isn't just a really good bit of silicone and an exception to the norm.

Tried mine on 1200. Always throttles at scene 15 when it hits 75C which makes the whole bench moot. :(

Unfortunately, I have to watercool it properly, and possibly not use the stock BIOS. Still it can do it and the minimum is 50.2 fps by that time.
(I get the minimum by scene 9-10 always).

do you think 295x2 is a better option that 970 SLI ?

Oh yeah.

Single card, runs very cool, silent and as powerful on stock speeds.

of course, you can get 970 SLI, overclock them, and live with heat and noise. But we can overclock the 295X2 also and still silence and no heat :D

Guys,
Using ATI Winflash 2.6.7 do I flash only the selected one?

(yes I know the switch on the PCB is on 1)

I used AtiFlash 4.17 from a bootable USB. Not sure about AtiWinFlash. However I flashed the Master first then the Slave, they are two different bios's. To be honest I don't think there is much point, didn't make any difference. Apart from letting me clock the RAM to 1690.

You are sure you used the Sapphire OC Bios, without any changes at all, on the Slave card? Because it should brick it.....:o

I had to switch to BIOS 2 and going to leave it there, until I find a way to put back the original bios on the slave card on BIOS 1. Apparently it cannot read it (nothing there...), after it had successfully flash it from the usb.

Master bios is OK on BIOS 1 though, and flashed it from the atiwinflash.

Yeah I installed to both, a master and a slave Sapphire OC bios.

Can you give me links to retry please? Techpower seems has only the master one.
Also I am trying to see how to solve the issue with device 1 bios since it says no VBIOS. thoughts? Is there a way to force it, without having it to verify?

The -F isn't working.

Bios 0 is back to the original one and have no issues with this one.

Update.

AtiWinflash and the ATiflash version that comes with it are, to put polite, sh**.

Used the Atiflash 4.17 (from win98 usb boot) put the original BIOS back and all is back to normal.

Sync0rrr, when you can give me the links of the BIOS you used please to give them a try.

Well I am thinking of setting up a tri fire system with my 295x2 . A few questions though.

Reckon its worth waiting to see if we can add the new 390 card with the 295?

If i get a SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 290X TRI-X OC are they dx 12 compatible like the 295 is meant to be?

Also atm I am getting 67fps in bf4 tomb raider is getting 60 fps in it's benchmark, will a 3rd card make much of a diffrence to the fps/ smoothness in game? all are with vsync on otherwise the tearing is terrible.

390 is coming out next year.
Regarding DX12, someone was saying that the GCN architecture can work with it with a simple driver update. HOWEVER, we are not going to see DX games well after 2016. It was just penned down, and not released yet. It's release is going to be pretty limited according to MS (only few of devs), and they will run it in parallel with DX11 for years to come. (DX11 gets another update soon)
So DX12 shouldn't be in your thoughts when you buy graphic cards atm.
By the time is going to be out, all going to be outdated (even the 970/980)

Which resolution you get those fps? Because these should be 4K res fps not lower than that. But yes it will work well with the 295X2.
Add space between the cards, since 290 doesn't need CF connector.

Sorry I forgot to say yes these are at 4k on the asus 28 inch PB287Q. My 295x2 is on the bottom pci atm so I have 2 inch clearance between that and another card. Thanks for the info about dx 12 . How is everyone else finding windows 7 with 4k ?

My self depending what I am trying to play/read its hit and miss xD So hope windows 9 will help with this problem

Which motherboard you have and the space is so limited? At least on my motherboard, I can put even a second 295X2 and still have 10cm (almost 4 inches) between cards.

As for 4K I have no idea. I am waiting for the curved 34" monitors so I still have 1080p one. But everything is maxed out and runs perfect :D

I have a maxiums6 hero board. The room is because of the way my cpu liquard cooler is set up.

As to the monitor tbh I am regretting switching from my 144hz asus 24 inch monitor 1080p :( fps just don't feel smooth like they use to but there is no going back now!

One thing I really hope happens is bf4 gets the drivers to support this card as mine has horrible times trying to play it on the 14.8 beta drivers. It stutters, freezes for 1-2secs or just locks up so I get kicked from the server will try bf4 without mantel tomorrow to see if dx will work better.

Did you check your temps? Which PSU you have?

I do not play BF4. But hadn't issues with any game I played on it.
