AMD RADEON RX 470 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE FROM £164.99 DELIVERED!!

I was hoping to be tempted by the RX470 because the performance should be enough for me - but the price is so close to the 480 price it seems like a no brainer to pay a little more for the 480.

Comparing 4GB models the difference is only £11! Comparing 8GB models (although I wouldn't have bothered with an 8GB 470) the difference is £21.

So comparing the 4GB 470 to the 8GB 480 there is only £32 difference! It's nothing, even at the budget end its practically nothing. Less than a night in the pub.

Its almost like AMD planned it that way. Surely not.

I can only think that AMD has done this to hopefully get people to go for a 480. I think that if a 4GB 470 has an MSRP of $179 and a 4GB 480 MSRP is $199 then that surely is way too close to position them.

I also cannot understand the reason for an 8GB 470 as they are better targetted at 1080P only and IMHO only need 4GB of Ram.

Also there has to be something wrong with UK pricing if the US prices are anything to go by.

:)

Gaming aside the 8gb one give the same hash rate as a 480 for mining but with less power consumption and a little cheaper. That's one reason to consider them. 25mhs and 120w is really good actually.

No it wouldn't. It would be about the performance of a 1070, for LOADS more money than just buying a 1070.

As for the 470, well it's not far behind the 480...

Actually according to a few 480CF bench videos the 480CF beats a 1070 in most games and is slightly slower than a 1080.....so I imagine from that the 1060 in SLI would have given the 1070 a beating too and maybe have been even closer to a 1080 in DX11 games/benches.

Also most of the new cards from both AMD and Nvidia are being drip fed to us and are nowhere near mass production runs as they should be. Nvidia have just released the Titan X(P) and some users are still waiting on their 1080s FFS!!

Getting ridiculous on both sides of the fence. :(

LOL, it really is not.

We sold 400pc of 1080 to once customer this week in Finland, Mining!

But in another thread you said you declined bulk orders like that

I really don't understand the point of this card at all, its being billed as a 1080 card, which was the entire point of the 480. So a slightly slower card than the 480 is better for 1080? 0_o

The 480, believe it or not, is being billed - by AMD - as a 1440p card.

It's still a good 1080p card. Only a bit slower than a stock 970 in reference card form, and the 970 is still a great 1080p/60fps card.

I do agree it's sitting a bit too close to the 480 both in performance and price, but it's certainly going to be a decent card to get for somebody who doesn't need or wont notice the extra 10% performance.
