AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

I cant help but think these will just end up like the 4080s. I want AMD to do well and gain marketshare etc, competition is always good but I think the problem could be price and the that the 4090 is better. Yeah they are likely to beat the 4080 but I think if your spending over a grand on a gpu your likely to be wanting the best. If they beat 4080s and are £100-200 cheaper thats good but they are still very likely to lose in ray tracing. If thats the case then I bet a lot of people will still go for the 4080 if not will to stretch for the 4090. Nvidia has marketed ray stracing so the average user thinks they need it. If they don't destroy the 4080 I think we will start to see 4080's sellings.

I really hope I'm wrong though
I’m hopeful on the ray tracing after the leak yesterday where it beat the 4080. Let’s see what the actual reviews say today.

It's possible, after all the 6900xt was both cheaper to actually buy and faster at rasterisation than the rtx3080, yet the 3080 sold a **** load more units

For reference there is 3.56 million RTx3080's in the steam hardware survey and just 0.4 million 6900xt, so for every 6900xt amd sold, Nvidia sold 9 rtx3080's

This time AMD might do better in sales, but it can just as easily be a repeat a rdna2 sales again

Which leak was that?

According to MLID's "sources" and to quote "on average the 7900xtx beats the rtx4080 in raster, but it loses significantly in Ray tracing"

6900xt was cheaper to buy? RRP was $1000
3080 was $699

You got your figures mixed up there bro.

Nah they said actually buy in point being the 3080 was often selling for more than the 6900xt due to it being Nvidia. At msrp sure but that was very limited stock wise to compare to the average actual availability.

RT performance will be the key for me.

If the top 7900 XTX can outperform 3090 & TI, at 4K - 1440P with RT on. That would be a good start, and worth shelling out some £££?
Good thing there is the 4080 for those that care about RT.

I’m certain Jensen has sent you 4080 for all your hard work trolling forums. So you have nothing to worry about.

Looks like its about 10 maybe 15% faster on average? With some driver updates and maturity it should be quite abit more, usually is anyway.

Why use leaks?

3D Centre did a meta review of the 4080. In that the 6950XT was 52.9% if the 4080 4K RT performance.

The 4 RT games AMD have shown have a geomean uplift of 1.66x over the 6950X for the 7900XTX. Apply that and you get 7900XTX being around 87.8% of the 4080 in 4K RT performance. That would make the Radeon card cheaper / frame in RT than the 4080 at MSRP vs MSRP and it would put the 7900XTX slightly above the 3090Ti in 4K RT.

I’m waiting for the real benchmark releases later before making any judgment though.

I'm more interested in the 7900 XT if it is below £900 and beats my 3080 by 40% - 50% in raster and matches in RT. Still more expensive than I would pay though.

No I didn't. For most of the life cycle, the 3080's price was stupidly over inflated because of mining and it was most of the time price higher than the 6900xt; even now when I checked the store I shop at a few mins ago they have some 6900xt for sale at 650 pounds and cheapest rtx3080 at 700 pounds

stop already with the logic.. We don't like it, leaves no room for over hyping or bashing products we know nothing off.. pff /s

Lol, yeah. Had one poster with a clear Nvidia bias claiming "you all" (I assume he/she/they meant people like us using logic) expected the 7900 to beat the 4090 by 50%. This was based on some click bait tech tuber who made outlandish claims 5 or 6 months ago.

Prettly much for the past load of months, AMD have claimed they were aiming for a 50% improvement in power for performance. So all we had to wait on was the TDP to get a decent ballpark of performance uplift.
