AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

But then you can sell the 5800x. I'd say its worth it if you're on a 4090
There's definitely an argument to be made there for the X3D but if you can afford the 4090 you can probably afford to pair with one of the top CPUs. I play on 4K 120Hz screen where I feel like my current 5800X would probably be fine maxing that out in most games assuming unlimited GPU power. If the 5800X3D was closer to 300 quid then for sure I would be tempted :p

Well now that Intels 13th gen is out the 13900K, While a lot more expensive, Is the top gaming CPU minus a few games where the X3D's cache comes in useful which isn't a lot sadly going by the various reviews I've watched/read.
The 13900k may now be the fastest overall but I would still rather have a 5800x3D over a 13900k any day of the week. The 13900k is almost double the price for a comparatively mall increase in performance in some games and less in others. Not to mention the 58003D often has better 1% and 0.1% lows.

The 5800x3D is still one of the top gaming CPU's and that won't change until the next generation are released.

Hey guys, newegg just dropped it to $329. I couldn't pass it up at that price :)
Was also about to come and post these price drops... absolutely insane! I will still wait to see what 70003D is like but if it is no bi difference then it looks like my AM4 will have another 2 years of life until Zen5. :)

£350 and below brand new and think I'll bite. Should see some nice gains in the 1 and 0.1% lows coming from a 5600x @ 3440x1440 (technically less a lot of the time since I use dlss where possible though)

It is not really a few games but they are more niche. AAA stuff it helps but not that much. Sim stuff the cache really helps. You see it in ACC, F1, MSFS and iRacing and it applies to other similar games as well. It also does well in grand strategy games like Stellaris but they very rarely get tested and generally it is FPS that gets tested not tic rate. Factorio does get tested and as you can see the X3D dominates everything by a huge margin.

The other good thing about the chip is it is really low power. It might run hot when not using PBO offsets (-30 all core works fine on mine) but the power draw is really low in games so the amount of heat dumped into the room is negligable.

Goodness, if we get similar prices in the UK to that Newegg price cut I may swap one in for my 5900X and sit happily for a few years. The X3D is selling very well according to some recent articles (one from a European retailer, also #5 on the rainforest's CPU list) so I'm somewhat surprised to see the price cut. It makes it the best value gaming CPU bar none.

The whole AM4 range is selling very well still so the rumoured additional X3D part would make sense, although perhaps not a 5950 version as unless the clocks are higher surely gaming performance would be nearly identical in all cases apart from the few cases where more threads are heavily utilised?

why do you even compare 13900k with 5800X3D?
the direct competitor is i5 13600K which is much faster, cheaper and runs at same temperature for just 10% more power.

5800X3D is dropped significantly in price is US market.
from $400+ to just $320 :)
the 13600K did it's job
it's a shame it's still full priced in the UK.
5800X3D is such a poor value for money for a new build .the 13600K is superior in every way and cheaper.

Nobody would advise a 5800X3D to somebody looking at a new build.

Where the 5800X3D shines in value for money is sustaining the previous generation platform. You can whack this chip in old AM4 motherboards for £420 and be about 5% (average) from the performance of a 13600K.
