AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Haven't experienced that with my CPU yet.

I assume you've set BIOS back to default? If you haven't, then there might be a RAM timing that was stable with previous CPU but not this one. It would rule one thing out at least.

Other than that, it might just be the old silicon lottery.

As I've said, all I've done is a hour of Cinebench, hour of Prime (small FFT) and numerous hours of gaming on MW2.

I'm not naive to think that I'm stable at -30 on all cores though.

Nah still rocking XMP profile. could be that I guess but at the end of the day if Im stable at -20 / -25 and not -30 then thats fine. End of the day as long as I'm not close to thermal throttling in any of my use cases then it's all gravy.

Are many of you running this CPU on air coolers? I'm currently using the Dark rock pro 4 with my 5800X, Just wondering how it would handle this chip if I were to make the switch. I don't really want to move to AIO.

I am, Alpenfohn Dolomit Premium which I don't think is too far off a DR Pro 4. It certainly reaches warm temps under synthetic load (~91C) but once you undervolt, that should bring it down 5-10C. And these are worst case temps, gaming etc will come in lower. I just need to figure out why I always reach 90C at load despite undervolting. You should be fine though.

Same as you, i'm on an NH-U14S - https://noctua.at/en/nh-u14s
It is in push pull with 1 140mm case exhaust fan and 2 x 140mm front case fans. Front and rear case fans are locked at 42% though as hate noise.

3090 Ti this morning has maxed out at 63c on Warzone 2 and idles at 22c (now)
5800X max 70.5c (running stock CPU but 3800C14, 1900IF on RAM)

Air cooling here as well. I'm running an Alpenfohn Brocken 2, which has dual 140mm fans. Picked up from OCUK ages ago when it was £27. Wasn't many reviews at the time so decided to take a chance on it. It kept my previous 3600x nice and cool.

With no undervolt:

Cinebench: 83c
Prime (Small FFT's): Was hitting the thermal limit of 90c
Gaming: Didn't check as knew there's no way it would be stressing all cores to 100% like above

I would have been happy with that as the Prime test is such an extreme use case that I would never encounter that with my typical usage.

-30 with PBO2 Tuner on all cores knocked 10c of those temps, so much more comfortable. Cinebench at 73c and Prime at 83c (so think Prime must have just breached the max thermal level at default voltage).

I've also undervolted my 3070ti, so that's probably helping too in reducing the amount of heat getting dumped into the case.

Idles at 22?! My room is 22 lol. No way I could get my CPU to idle at 0 delta over room temp.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep it in mind if/when I make the jump. Its been a fairly decent cooler so far and states it should handle up to 250W.

Is your 3090Ti undervolted? My 3080 is still running at stock settings so should probably look at undervolting it to be fair as games usually hit 73deg.
My case has three intake fans at the front of the case, A further two intakes at the bottom blasting into the GPU then three at the top and rear for extract. I can't recall my 5800X temp during gaming, Shall check later.

Great, Thanks for the input. Certainly seems to cope with it, Those temps would not concern me after the undervolt of PBO2 tuner.
It gives me confidence that it should easily handle it.

GPU idles at 22c
CPU idles around 30c
I've just ran Cinebench R23 and CPU max hits 86.8c. I do have a low noise adapter on the CPU fan too I think (or pump, cant remember) so could probably be dropped a bit
Room temp is currently 18.8c

Nope, just stock settings and this fan curve ive been using since 980Ti days.

Warmed up slightly after Cinebench I expect

If we get another summer like the recent one then I might have to re-evaluate cooling set up. Have always been tempted by an AIO, so could call upon one of those if it came to it.

Mind you, I hate hot weather and the last thing I want to be doing in 30c+ heat is be sat in front of my PC, so I end up not really using my rig when its toasty outside. :p
