AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Which cooler are you using?

If you have a Gigabyte motherboard you could try setting core voltage to 'normal' instead of 'auto'. Gigabyte likes to overvolt compared to other manufacturers which can cause problems. Gamers Nexus confirmed that they were overvolting the 5800X3D compared to MSI.

There is no options in the bios to adjust anything to do with CPU, the only CPU adjustable voltage os the SoC voltage, CPU VCore isnt even listed in the bios anymore.

I'm about to get this CPU, is there any chance of damaging it by undervolting?
No, using PBOTuner2 to set a Curve optimiser to undervolt your CPU will not damage it.

If you manually set a negative voltage offset, all this will do is reduce the boost clocks in line with its default voltage curve/clock speed.

If anything, undervolting reduces heat, which will more than likely slow down degradation.

I was playing MW2 last night for the first time since switching CPU's.

Although I'm playing at 1440p on a 3070ti, it definitely feels a lot smoother during gameplay. I've been playing Invasion game mode, so those maps are quite large with lots going on.

I wasn't monitoring/recording the FPS but it definitely felt like it maintained a more stable frame rate compared to previous 3600x.

it's a big upgrade from a 3600x

Whilst we're all hoping for it to continue dropping, don't forget what Gibbo said earlier in this thread (the rebate retailers get from AMD is ending soon, and they don't know if AMD will bring it back - so it could climbing back up).

I have a 5900x I take it the gains are very marginal? My pc is my workhorse (for work (engineering so do throw quite a bit of stuff at it), personal, and very very occasional gaming) from what I've read it seems that I'm really not likely to see night and day difference - plus the fact it runs hotter makes me nervous (unnecessarily I'm sure).

The 58003D is only going to provide some gaming benefits vs a 5900 and if you mainly do productive multicore stuff and only do 'very very occasional gaming' then you would be downgrading.

Stick with what you have to be honest.

If you're an occasional gamer then the 5900X is more than sufficent for that. Sounds like you'll benefit from the additional cores.

That's what I thought - but just wanted to check before blackfriday deals tempt me. The 6700 XT I have also seems to do fine for most games I currently play (as I said casually - damned professional and family life getting in the way! :D).

Is there anything that can be done in PBO2 tuner or other software that would allow the 5800X3D to boost a single core only to say 4.8Ghz?
Simple answer.....Nope......BLK overclocking would work, but it affects all other PCI-e devices in your PC........GPU, nvme drives etc, so depends if those other devices can handle an increased BLK speed.

Tried bclk over clocking and had major stability problems. I still have old sata hard drives and usb2 devices which are not helping. Your mileage will vary.

Interesting, I have an X570 (MSI MEG Unify) motherboard and its now on the latest AGESA 1.2.0.7 BIOS.
It'll be interesting if anyone can undervolt this in PBO2Tuner, which also BCLK overclocking it.

Can everyone run stable RAM clocks and CL timings with their 5800X3D? I currently have a 5800X with 2 x 16GB 3600Mhz C16 RAM running at 3800C14. I was looking to do a slight upgrade from 5800X to 5800X3D for gaming and sell off my 5800X to part fund it.

Were you running it higher than 3600C16 on your previous chip?
I used to tighten the timings quite a lot, now I just can't be bothered. Apparently with the 5800x3d timings matter even less than most CPUs. It makes sense I guess, more of the processing takes place on the chip without constantly accessing the RAM.
