AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

So upgraded my CPU to the 5800X3d. 4090 GPU utilisation is now usually above 90% whereas was often in the 70% range when I had my 3900x.
Makes a noticeable difference in F1 22, no occasional jerkiness in replay mode with all maxed settings at 4k.
Managed to get for £328.
Thus very much recommend a CPU upgrade to all you lucky 4090 owners on older cpu's.

Prices are all over the place

Can suppliers change their 'Was' price to anthing they want?

Pretty much providing it was a reduction and/or increase is in I think the past 30 days (that's why you see some explicit dates on price ranges of sale items or the rainforest saying 'cheapest for 30 days'). I mean, DFS have historically always had a sale on and you must buy now or miss out. Though they've got into trouble before for price fixing.

I'm a bit out of date with PC upgrades after going down console route and still rocking my heavily overclocked 3770k for any PC gaming that takes my fancy

My son wants me to build him a new PC around his current 3070 - wondered what people's general view was please am4 route with a 5800x3d and an x570 motherboard Vs am5 7700x with a b650 and ddr5. Am5 socket has longer future but I've never upgraded a cpu into an existing motherboard ; in the past I've normally found providing you go upper mid range CPU or above for the socket then the CPU will stay current for ages and probably well past socket life

Also I know 7700x has higher core clocks but I have a feeling the 5800x2d might age better if more and more cpus have loads of cache and more and more games benefit from it

Many thanks

I'd go B550(Aorus Elite V2), 5700X3D and cheaper 3600MHz DDR 4 (Patriot Viper 2x16GB), set to XMP and away you go. Probably £600 all in and will last for years, just upgrade the GPU now and then.

With a 3070 you would be ok with even a 5600x and OC it. 5800x3d is more future proof, but twice the price.

Stress testig isnt always the (only) way to go. At least classic testing like Prime and 3d Mark for mainly GPU benching.

I carried out hours of stability testing my 5800X undervolt, only for it to fall flat on its arse playing Warzone. I expect the undervolt was fine for stressing the CPU alone, but combined with GPU, RAM, sound and whatever else I had a complete system shutdown mid game.
This was only with the 5800X undervolted too

You can test every component all day long but that doesnt mean its stable when combined with x or xx

I guess a 100% stability test would be a 24 hour sequence that uses all components combined for maxium heat and power use... or Prime, Karhu and Port royal all at the same time!
That is why people should initially use Realbench instead of Prime as it stresses CPU, GPU and memory (to a certain extent) at the same time. ;)

Good stuff, i'm hoping to just drop the 5800X3D in when it arrives today and my BIOS settings all stay as they are. Is that dreaming with RAM at 3800C14?
It was out for delivery this morning and had an update it'll be delivered 1:45 PM - 3:45 PM.

Love the Rainforest store, do they use their own delivery system and drivers? (I think aswell as using UPS and Fedex) Why don't they offer their delivery services to other companies? Even things like providing an estimated time of delivery instead of "9am - 5pm" then it arrives at 7pm or not at all. A few times i've wasted a whole day because of "9-5" or "arriving today"

Thanks :) , may the silicon gods smile on your new purchase!

This is a B grade mobo C8DH from OCuk, Sam Harvey was great! Everything was with it and sealed, board looked like as if it had been screwed down! I've had 2x 5800X3D, BR 2229 PGS pants IMC, better core. About 1-2% better in CPU tests. These results were not run to run swing, effective clocks in Kahru RAM Test/RealBench/f@h were higher.

The 3D cache is cool on tech POV, but makes the 5800X3D so hot in certain tests. Same cooling setup has been used with Threadripper 1000 & 2000 series/R7 2700X/R5 3600/ R7 3700X/3x R9 3900X/ R9 5900X.

This 2nd 5800X3D (BR 2224 PGS) is "Used - Like New" purchase! :)Dunno why someone let it go!

I've updated imgur album with f@h with Kahru RAM Test to 5K% plus 3x AIDA64 and 3x CB23. Doesn't seem as if slightly loosened tRFC/tRDRDSCL/tWRWRSCL is losing be anything.

I'd strongly advise you not to do that.

Lots of folk on Reddit did the same and were getting weird results when using PBO2 Tuner. You must ensure you reset the BIOS.
What's the difference between resetting to optimized defaults then adjusting the settings to what I have now or just keep the settings I have now?

@michty_me Im on the latest BIOS for AMD3D support and latest AMD chipset drivers

BR 2429 PGS?
BR 2224 PGS?

Are there different models of 5800X3D I take it? Does it show this on the box / cpu / elsewhere like cpuz?

It's CPU batch number, it will be stamped on IHS. Will be visible in box. AFAIK SW doesn't show it. Corrected my last post as 2429 should be 2229.

I'm using a NH-D14 with mine and no issues.

We are in winter at the moment though so that helps.

I see you moved from the 3700X to the 5800X3D!

Have you seen a big improvement over your previous chip?

I ask, since I'm beginning to think my 3900X might be holding back the 3070 a bit (maybe the driver overhead of an Nvidia card is having an impact here).

Only game I have played is Elden Ring so haven't noticed anything yet.

I am next to play Uncharted but I will soon play Spider Man Morales and having recently played Spiderman Remastered I might noticed a difference there.
