AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

I wish I had bought one of these rather than procrastinating about selling the 5950x.

DO you think scalpers are buying these too?

Really need to check forums and ebay to see if idiots are re-selling them....
I bought one only because I saw stock level going down insanely fast, but I'm not sure if I should proceed installing it...

Do you need it? Can you afford it? Is it replacing an existing CPU you can sell to offset the cost?
It's a toy that is nice to have, not something vital for life.

Can afford the price? Sure. Can afford the cooling requirement? My ITX rigs are likely gonna struggle.

It's more like a precautious move that it may get sold out everywhere, just like the RTX 3000 GPUs, or PlayStation 5 etc.

Quick test of Shadow of The Tomb Raider, 1080P lowest settings.

Measuring the CPU results from the above.

Min FPS: 5800X3D 19% faster
Avg FPS: 5800X3D 17% faster

Need to properly tune the 5800X3D memory next, apply some thermal paste between the cooler and the CPU (I wanted to quickly get some results out) and then reinstall the OS.

6800 XT Midnight Black Edition.

Nice one dude, tried to get to 2000 since my stick is 4000c16 but only got as far to 3800 for the 1:1 which isn't bad. 3866 booted but my god it was possessed af, everything so flaky and event viewer was screaming like Hell with WHEA errors. Maybe if I up the voltages it would be a better result

Maybe. Try gear down mode on for over 3800. I got mine stable by putting VDDP and IOD up to 1.1v and SOC up to 1.125v.

I was considering one of these but I play at 4k and it seems there is no performance gain over my existing 3600x, so I'll give it a miss

£410 is a crazy expensive price too

I'm pondering the same but at 1440p. From reviews it looks like it may be worth it at lower resolutions for the 1% lows over the Ryzen 3600X.

Noice, it seems the IF on this processor isn't great but 3800 1:1 is still a decent upgrade from my 3900x's 3600. Just need to tune my ram more instead. Maybe a bios update for my hero board (not dark) would help.

Matts results above seem to be showing pretty strong gains at 4k, particular minimum fps. As he has one and is comparing to another Ryzen 3 CPU maybe ask if he can run you some benchmarks. :)

UPDATE!

Guys I am only going to post updates in this thread.

The extra 50 as promised arrived, all official stock and so MSRP remains.
AMD are informing me more stock won't be until mid-end May now, I shall leave the product on pre-order at MSRP so anyone happy to wait around 4 weeks should pre-order to secure one at the MSRP. Let me repeat the time for more stock is an estimate so if it slips, well it slips, we are in AMD's hands now for getting more stock into the channel.

The reason I am saying this is because when 5900X launched at times there was stock available for me to buy but from grey sources and as such at inflated prices, if this happens again I MIGHT buy this stock but will buy it and place it under a different stock code, that way customers have two choices, buy one at MSRP and wait, or buy one at the premium price to beat the wait, the premium price will be because we have paid a premium to get that stock.

However AMD have more control this time so in a way I hope there will be little to no grey stock, as such not even worth me wasting my time on and as such we can just leave the MSRP SKU up and keep taking pre-orders and hopefully AMD will fulfill, if it goes similar to way 5900X did then in about 1-2 months time 5800X 3D will be an always on the shelf product just like 5900X is today.

But as of now the next batch is around 4 weeks away, so anyone ordering, bear this in mind and remember it is an ESTIMATED delivery time.

The hardware unboxed review does a pretty good job of showing the gains over the 5800X at various resolutions, so I would recommend people check that out to get an idea of the improvements and how their favourite game/s perform.

What I have noticed is that there is a big improvements to 1% lows all round which is important and why I got this processor to eventually replace my 5950X.

Here are some Far Cry 6 results, using 1080P with RT enabled and the HD Texture pack, using the medium and ultra presets.

Any old game, stuck using 1/2 CPU cores will love the 5800X3D. HUB review shows this also.

If you play 4K max settings with everything dialled up, you'll notice a few percent difference at best unless you play certain games that use 1/2 CPU threads. In this scenario, as HUB showed, you can get stupid gains up to 30% even at 4K.

If you play below 4K at 1440P/1080P and you use the low, medium, high presets in games, the 3DVcache will shine here when paired with a decent GPU and will give you better performance as it seems to chew through games/settings that have traditionally bottlenecked all the other high end CPUs in these scenarios.

Disclaimer: Just my opinion, YMMV. :)

Cheers for the update Gibbo. Payday came in so preordered for now.

Thanks for the tests LtMatt, seems I have to finally stop being lazy and start tuning my RAM if I want to make the most of it.
