AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

So I'm on a 3900x and thinking this is a no brainer now.

I just need to check the bios upgrade I did is stable.
Machine wasn't when I moved to W11 (whea errors), and even worse with the bios needed to support the x3d. but I rolled backed to w10 and that solved it, I just can't recall whether I left the bios on or not.

It was probably because I did an upgrade rather than a fresh install.

Installed mine today. Luckily got it before the recent £ increase.

Changed from a 5600X mainly for MSFS. Should keep me going for awhile. Temps a bit higher as expected but seems good.

Will give it a few days and move on the 5600X.

I had my 5800X at 3800 C14 / 1900FLCK but the 5800X3D doesnt like 1900 FCLK so just left it at XMP (3600C16/1800FCLK)

Let me know how you get on. I would probably end up shorting my motherboard and cpu

Did you check your VDDG voltages? I've just updated my bios to the 1.07 and the auto value dropped from over 1.05 to 1.0v

Well I've ordered one finally.
At that price can't complain.

I got my 3900x for £350 almost 3 years ago. Hopefully flog it on for £150.

Also ordered that fanless case for my Asus pn50.

OK so i've just been in my unify bios and the game boost button appears to work... i pressed it and fans ramped up immediately... so i turned it off again. @Guest2 did you trying turning it on?

Edit- Turned it on. It just whacked the fans to 100%. That was it.

I just switched my 5800x out for a 5800x3D for improved VR performance, mainly in Skyrim and Fallout 4. Lets see how it performs when I try it either tomorrow or early next week. When my 4090 finally arrives the plan is then not to upgrade for 2 years until Zen5.:)

Is it worth it going from a 5800x to the 5800x3d for 4k?

Unless there's a game you play a lot that benefits then not really at 4k.

Then if you OC'd your 5800X then nah. Some games benefit greatly, others not at all. Considering the 1% lows only - you'd probably not 'feel' any benefit as much as others coming from lesser CPU's than the 5800X. Measurable yes, actual real life experience - doubt you'd notice.

Really does depend on the games to be honest. Far cry 6 and Spider-Man see good gains some of the other games made no difference. I know ms flight sim loves this cpu. Your mileage will vary.

In my opinion, if you've already running a 5xxx series CPU, I don't think it's worth it.

Folks with earlier series Ryzen CPU's will see the biggest improvement.
Totally agree with you, I went from a 3900x to 5800x3d and game at 4K (albeit only at 75Hz) and there is a marked improvement with this CPU.

Depends if the games you play push 100+ fps at 4k. If you have anything less than a 3080/6800XT it probably isn't.

If you plan on upgrading to a high end RDNA3 or Ada, then definitely worth it, perhaps when you do upgrade.

Destiny 2 for me is more consistent going from a 5900X to 5800X3D even at 4K.

99% of the time it is similar, but those odd dropped frames you notice, even though VRR helps.
