5800x3d
Corsair H100i Elite Capellix

This was available for £312 inc today. I ordered one to sell on here (instead of scalpers buying it) but cancelled as thought it might not be worth it by the time someone paid for insured delivery

So before I install this I presume I simply reset my bios to optimised defaults. Reboot insure all is good. Then shutdown, change the chip, reboot and if all is good, go back to bios and set XMP profile?

Presuming your current BIOS is compatible with the 5800X3D?
Yes mate. Updated it a while ago.

No end of problems with WHEA errors. However I realised, finally, I'd upgraded to W11 and actually a few error were coming through before I updated the bios. Once on the new bios is was mental and lots of crashes.

I did a fresh install of W10 and they went away.

Some discussion on the net suggested doing an upgrade of W10 to W11 and not a fresh install was the cause.

Couldn't be bothered to do a fresh install of W11 to see, but all stable now.

Although there is a newer bios from gigabyte, but they are all beta anyway...including the one that supports the x3d.

Gonna use my 150i to check it all works and next time I drain my loop for the GPU add the CPU on to the loop.

Using kryonaut for the paste...hopefully that's good stuff.

AMD chipset drivers and as mentioned, BIOS update for 5800X3D support

Wow 7.5 hours, were you screwing in the screws with your fingers, and doing it blindfolded.

lol ! that did include 1.5 hours installing Windows 10 then upgrading to Windows 11 but even so it did take ages ! - my neck is sore today too

RGB fan headers all over the place, I've not installed an AIO before, new case, NVME mounting completely new to me etc

seems to be working AOK though :) quite an upgrade from a Xeon E3-1225 v3 for him

Congratulations on that build, sounds perfect for a gamer and 1440p resolution. I also installed the 5800X3D. Last month. And have the RTX 3070!

Had a blast On Plague Tale: Innocence last night and in my new Phanteks P600S case CPU temps reached 85c on my Noctua DH15 Chromax with 2x fans. I did get a weird crash yesterday, but even checking the event logs I am not really sure what it was attributed to... could have been the GPU.

I bought the 5800x3D for a VR boost, my 5800x was a lemon in terms of clocking so I am looking forward to the increase in lows it will bring. In fact many of the games the 5800x3D give benefits in are games that I play, so for me it is worth the upgrade to last me the next 2 years as I have zero desire to go through a system upgrade and OS reinstall when the 7000x3D series is released. I just want to enjoy my system and get the most out of what I have for the next 2 years.

I just ordered a 4090 that was actually in stock and ready to be delivered tomorrow, so soon I should be in VR and 4k120fps heaven. as I am limited to 120fps by my HDMI2.1 OLED TV I honestly think a 4090, in combination with DLSS2/3, may last well into the next GPU upgrade cycle.

Good gaming times are coming. :)

A 4090 would go very nicely with the 5800X3D.

You're going to be GPU limited at 4K but the 5800X3D will help to reduce against those frame drops in hectic situations or busy map areas.

Its just a shame that the GPU prices are currently insane. I picked up a 3070ti FE during the craziness of covid and it's currently serving me well for 1440p.

At this rate, the money I spent on it will probably get me a 4050 :p Won't be upgrading until I can get double FPS performance at 1440p for what I spent on the 3070ti. Skipping this gen and waiting for RDNA4/5xxx.

Got a 5600x, anyone think it's worth upgrading to the 5800x3d? Planning to run at 3440x1440.

The general consensus is that if you're running a 1xxx, 2xxx or 3xxx series Ryzen, then a 5800X3D is a cost effective way of leveraging the best possible gaming performance, as you can generally drop it into your existing motherboard (assuming there is a BIOS to support it). The uplift from an upgrade is quite significant. I move from a 3600X and it was a very noticeable difference in games, espeically in terms of smoother frame rates when things get busy on screen.

However, I think a lot of that was probably down to the IPC improvements that the 5xxx series brought, which leads onto this.

I don't personally feel the upgrade from a 5xxx series is a massive one, unless you have a specific use case for it (e.g. a game you play that really benefits from the additional cache and shows a massive improvement) or you're planning on dropping a 4090 in there at some point. A 5600X is still a capable CPU for gaming. You're probably better off saving your pennies for a future system build like a future AM5 rig with a 7xxx 3D Cache CPU.

Was only pulling your leg. :D

Better to take your time and get it right first time. I still bench test every board/CPU before putting it in the case even though it takes a little extra time, it is a good habit and saves time in the end.

Hope he appreciates the effort and size of upgrade. :)

I took the plunge and boy in some games you do not notice any difference. But in other ones, it flies. Really pushes my RTX 3070 at 1080P with God of War. RTX 3070 sounds like a hoover.
