AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

If I'm honest I have not been that impressed with the perf gain over my 5600x.

Maybe I haven't played any games that really show the difference.

Since getting the 5800x3d I've played: Elden Ring, Spiderman Morales, Uncharted and now Judgment.

I think being on a forum such as this puts a lot of emphasis on the 'best' chips, almost relegating previous good chips to a substandard tier when in reality most of the recent chips are still obviously very capable when it comes to gaming. All of the Zen3 chips such as your 5600X or my old 5800X fall in to that category and upgrading to the 5800X3D wasn't really necessary. The gains are only really at high FPS numbers, potentially in 1% figures or a few outliers that struggled with single threaded limitations. (Borderlands 2 for example)
It is the best gaming chip for my AM4 motherboard so I don't regret buying it at all and should have legs for another GPU upgrade at least :)

It would probably stand out further if you had a newer GPU. You may have seen the 5600X bottleneck where as the 5800X3D would go further.
Thats the main reason I switched. So AM4 would go further for me and maybe another GPU upgrade or so depending when I feel I need to change my 3080FE. I'm sure it will last another good few years.

Same here I went from a 3700x and can’t say I have seen anything obvious with my eyes. But I play at 4K so probably in the lows there is some small improvement. Many say the games are smoother, less stuttering etc. My eye can’t see it, but it might be there in the graphs

1440p flightsim is much improved for us. As is pubg, bf2042.

For bf2042 I always got stutter on the first few scope zooms. Now it's liquid smooth.

Coming from 3900x.

Not amazing...but good enough to warrant the upgrade and stave off any upgrade for 2-3 years for me personally.

In my experience with this mobo, no. When training it would restart, but this feels like it's powercycling due to the audible clicking of some component (which I think is the PSU)

I've parked it for the moment. Blown away with the perf over my 3900x anyway, so might look in the future if I feel I'm needing a little boost and I'll just leave it all at XMP.

Reboots I guess you've experienced with memory training. Re-read your OP. Clicking I always pinned down to fans with PWM. Odd if it happens every time you boot. Maybe save a MOBO profile externally then clear CMOS, then go again. X570 was a bit clicky with me when I was trying to get Team group RAM to play ball. Hope you sort it.

Just got my 5800x3d installed in an asus x570 mobo. I play a lot of cyberpunk and in the market area the framerate would always tank and certain other npc heavy areas into the 40s on my 5600x. Here are my results of a custom run through the market area.

5600x @ 4700mhz + rtx 4080 min 38fps avg 44fps high 51fps. Gpu usage at around 40-60%.
5800X3D @ 4400mhz + rtx 4080 min 43fps avg 54fps high 65fps. Gpu at 55-75%.

Job done!

Whats the CPU usage like?

I also upgraded from a 3700x, and the difference for me was very obvious.
I mainly play the Bf games - 3440 x 1440 - my fps lows never drop below 116 - I am on a Predator screen that is 120hz with G-sync
Previously the fps could drop as low as 70.
No stutter whatsoever, the game is now silky smooth and feels a lot more responsive.
I am happy with the upgrade, no complaints from me.

Think your sig is slightly wrong, no 3800X3D was ever built. I think it should be 5? :)

That's one of the reasons I didn't get it (although I was tempted). MMOs, grand strategy games, flight/space simulators and racing games seem to benefit the most and I don't really play very many of them.

Conversely, that is exactly what I play. And VR. which also benefits. :D

Just ordered one to upgrade my 3600 as last AM4 upgrade, amazing how much mileage I've had out this platform.

Will not need to upgrade for another 2-3 years coupled with my 3080.

How have others found the upgrade from the 3600?

Mine should be arriving today / tomorrow but I only have a wraith stealth so don't think I'll be able to install and use that until my new cooler arrives.

That's mine ordered.

Should be a nice upgrade over my 3600 and be good for the next couple of years. It was this or the 5900X around the same price (bit cheaper actually at £332) but I don't use my rig with stressful applications that benefit the additional cores outside of gaming, so 5800X3D it is.

How did you find the upgrade from the 3600? Interested to hear more as this is my route.

I'm only playing MW2 multiplayer at the moment but finding less FPS drops in larger maps (I like playing Invasion) when there is a lot going on. It feels a lot smoother.

I have a 3070ti and play at 1440p with a lot of the graphical options dropped (prefer the higher FPS over eye candy).

Temps are higher with the 5800X3D compared to the 3600 when loading all cores. Perfectly fine in gaming at stock though (mileage will vary depending on your CPU cooling currently in place).

I upgraded my 3900x to a 5800x3D yesterday, been putting it off for a few weeks as it meant draining my loop to do so. All went well though, upgraded to latest BIOS beforehand to be sure. Can't really say a lot for performance just yet, I don't think my 1080 is exactly CPU bound but I do plan to pick up an 7900XT(X) next year at some point, so at least now I have the right CPU ready for the job. It may well be a placebo but my system feels a lot snappier since upgrading. Running at around 70C under full load CB23.
