AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Sorry if this has been asked before, but would this chip be a decent upgrade to a 3600X at 1440p with a 3080?

My board is a Mortar Max B450 if that makes any difference. Cheers.

You will need to make sure you have a bios version that supports the 5800x3d before the chip will work

These seem to be going up in price and not many in stock now...
Any chance they've stopped manufacturing these? I'm feeling fomo.
Same which is why I grabbed one last week for £350.

I reckon once the new 7 series X3D chips are out enthusiasts will be upgrading so we should see second hand 5800X3Ds pop up for sale, so there's always that option.

Late reply, sorry I missed this.
Yes, thats about right.

I have tried Kombo strike. Mode 3 is the best and does about the same as PBOTune2 setting -25 on all cores. Multicore boost is higher but I found it only makes performance worse in games - stuttering / jerkiness / hitching whatever you want to call it.

Use kombo strike / PBO / other undervolt method to get slightly lower temps and running benchmarks but for gaming it's best left to do its thing. Gaming max temp i've seen mine his is 73c in Warzone 2. So still way under the max rated temp.
I'm using air cooling

I don't know why anyone is even bothered about running Cinebench, Prime and other tools with the 5800X3D and getting high all core boost and/or higher benchmark scores.
It's main use is gaming, if you want benchmarking chip, you should have probably bought a 5950X or 7950X instead. To play games smoothly, the 5800X3D at stock will work better than both those chips

For test purposes and nobbing around though, sure tweak the chip all you want. I enjoyed at least trying, only to find out it's better left alone

Have you turned off/left on the fTPM Module? I think it was supposed to have problems with higher RAM frequencies, agesa 1.07 was supposed to sort it out, but i've disabled mine now and I'm going to try taking the RAM up to 3733 again...

Left it unchanged. I dont think there's much point as it's all working really well at stock settings. Had zero crashes in Warzone 2 and it's smoother than when my RAM was at 3800 with a 5800X

Does anyone have experience of how well this CPU plays with 4 sticks of RAM? I’m looking to get 32gb 3600mhz.
I've got 4 sticks of RAM which are G-Skill trident z RGB 3600 CAS16. I'm able to run them at 3733MHZ with an FCLK of 1866. I can post at 3800MHZ but when tested I get the odd crash so back to 3733MHZ.
I'm sure I could push more with two sticks but as I've got Four thats my lot.
In other news I've just noticed a new BIOS update for my motherboard Asus cross hair 8, which now has options for PBO tuning with core optimizer so can do offsets per core.

Have ordered this RAM - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/king...00c18-3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-my-29c-ks.html

Hopefully it’ll pair well with the new CPU!
You would have been better off getting this for an extra £20 if you are able to budget it in.

Better timings.

See my post earlier in this thread - this is unfortunately too tall for my Dark Rock Pro 4 unless you remove the PCB cover which I don’t want to do.

I also got the Kingston memory for £70 B grade :)

I've been benching my new 5800X3D a bit today, I have the 8-Pack kit above and tried tightening the timings from the XMP/DOCP profile (16-16-16-16-38-82) to the tighter timings suggested by the Ryzen DRAM calculator (14-15-15-15-30-48) and it made no difference to my 3dmark scores in fact they decreased very slightly on the tighter timings (margin of error). I've read a lot that the 5800X3D doesn't benefit hugely from top spec RAM as the extra onboard cache is large enough not to rely on the RAM and it looks like this may be the case, at least in my rig. Obviously the 8 Pack stuff is ideal for non 3D chips but I imagine anyone upgrading from a 5800X3D will be moving onto DDR5 so if you're buying RAM just for the 5800X3D you don't necessarily need the best, just something decent.

I've confirmed for myself again that a -0.05 offset to VCORE gives a boost to performance allowing the cores to sustain a higher speed for longer and also using PBO2 to undervolt the cores does the same and the combination of the two is definitely worthwhile, dropping temps and improving performance. I did have PBO2 settings in the limits section reducing the PPT, TDC & EDC but on testing whilst this does reduce temperatures it also slightly reduces performance so I just use it for the core curves (-30 on all).

Ah apologies, I did read that before but didn't recognise the same user name.

As Pieeater said, Its probably noty going to make any difference anyway, Sounds like you got a bargain!
