AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Might pick up one of these very soon - Was going to get a new GPU but after seeing the price/performance this gen I'm completely skipping. RTX 4000 series seems a repeat of the dud 2000 series hoping 5000 series is more like 3000.
Don't want to wait too long, I can see these going up in price when they are not being produced anymore and everyone on AM4 wants one. As for why a 5800x3d from a regular 5800x - I can see it bottlenecking my 3080 is quite a few games at 1440p. Mostly RT games where GPU usage will drop to 70-80% and some fps games like Hell Let Loose/Battlefield/MW2 where the gains are massive according to other posts I've seen online.

It's a good chip, certainly see my 3080fe stretching it's legs a bit more.

Lad plays flight simulator and I swopped it without his knowledge.

Day later he said he thinks there has been an update and its smooth all the time now. Hahhaa

After a bit more time, all stock my max load temps were around 83oC with the LF420. Enabling -30, all cores, with PBOTuner2 and temps are now 62oC. Clockspeed seems happy at 4.45. I've seen it hit 4.5 single core but it seems rare from when I've been watching.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but would this chip be a decent upgrade to a 3600X at 1440p with a 3080?

My board is a Mortar Max B450 if that makes any difference. Cheers.

Thankyou I'll give it a try

Now it's built it's difficult to get onto it ... He's like it works fine (he does have a point)
I was wondering if you ever got the chance to check the temps. I recently got an h100i elite capellix and I'm wondering if I should return it while I still can and go for a 360 mm cooler instead as I would want to upgrade to a 5800x3D in the future!

Finally got mine installed came from a 3600, seems a nice upgrade so far with noticeable boost in games and smoother etc. Will be my last PC upgrade for a number of years now due to little usage these days,

Using PBO Tuner and undervolted -30 on all cores, runs quite cool now at around 29c idle lowest i've seen and about 70-80c in games & 55c max in normal desktop usage, ambient temp is 18c

Yes sustained 4.55ghz all core. Not done any tinkering just latest agesa bios, AMD drivers and enabled MSI kombostrike level 3 on the bios. Specs MSI b450 pro carbon and 32gb ddr4 3200mhz ram

That is odd because mine using CO tuner at -30 does 4.45Ghz all core in CB23 but gets about 15k.

Does anyone have experience of how well this CPU plays with 4 sticks of RAM? I’m looking to get 32gb 3600mhz.
I am running 2 x 16GB 8-Pack B-Die kits one rated for 3200 C14 and the other rated for 3600 C16, I have them both running at 3600 C16 with no issues.

It's going to be down to your motherboard and whether or how well your 4 sticks are matched. My understanding is the best option in terms of stability and performance is 2 sticks of dual ranked RAM, something like this

Thanks. I was very close to buying some of those off of the Members Market here, but unfortunately they’re too tall for my Dark Rock Pro 4.

If you check the product page it does say "Furthermore the PCB cover of the heatspreader can be removed, which reduces the total height to just 37 mm and markedly increases compatibility with larger CPU coolers." Not sure if that helps, you may want to confirm with OCUK how the PCB covers are removed i.e. if any special tools are required.

I did ask the seller about that but (completely understandably) they didn’t want to pull the heat spreader off :)
