AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Depends on the motherboard. If Asus, Update the BIOS and use PBO settings in BIOS rather than faffing about with PBO tuner

It's a really old gigabyte B350 board with the latest BIOS. Stuck it in and it works fine, just loaded bios defaults, then changed ram speed and it runs fine. Temp at idle is around 35-40 with spikes to 45ish.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to run some benchmarks and games tomorrow but would be useful to know the best way to keep it speedy but cool.

I reckon once the new 7 series X3D chips are out enthusiasts will be upgrading so we should see second hand 5800X3Ds pop up for sale,
I sure hope so, as I want to grab one of those - basically upgrading my existing AM4 build to a 'high end' AM4 build to keep me going. Recently acquired (waiting on postman) an X570 board and an RTX3090.
My current CPU is a 3700X so some good improvements to be made there if I can get a 5800X3d :)

I don't know about an influx of 5800X3D on the second hand market.

I personally went with a 5800X3D to extend the life from my AM4 platform with a view to skipping AM5 completely; probably upgrading my 3070ti a some point in the future when it really starts to struggle. I think there are others in here that probably doing the same thing.

I don't think retail price of these will dropped massively either. AM4 will become an unsupported platform as people opt for AM5 (you'd expect the barrier to this at the moment, motherboard prices, should improve), the price of the 5800X3D will remain steady, which will knock onto the second hand market.

Just my crackpot theory.

That's my approach too.
I don't need an influx - one reasonably priced one I can pick up would be fine :D

I was a little sceptical of moving from a 5900x to a 5800x3d, rig is mainly used for iRacing on 1080p triples with 3080, but it has been struggling recently with keeping high frame rates on at tracks like Daytona, never seem to be a problem before.

Dropped in a 5800x3d and it is night and day difference, lows have gone from 90, up to 130+, its now butter smooth. Would recommend!

Plan on selling the 5900x, so cost of massive increase of performance around £100.

It does make me wonder if there is an inherent problem with the original design or how it works, or perhaps just not enough cache in the first place. That jump in massive, but not uncommon on what others have said.

i went from the 5600X to the X3D, and CPU limited games at 1080p, that had stutter, now run buttery smooth. It was strange, it was a fast CPU, the 5600X, but some games started to play up. Almost like AMD had a design flaw with chiplets...

Just dropped this in and my FPS is a lot higher in games where I was previously CPU bound on my 3600X, plus the 1% lows are amazing.

I'll give PBO2 a go later too I think, mainly to get the CPU a little cooler. Having said that, it's running sub 60 degrees in most games under my DRP4!

Except the 5600X is a single chiplet...
