AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

I guess maybe they need a bit of extra income to ensure they can keep these forums up and running so that folks have the ability to publicly whinge about their pricing policies. Makes you wander why these other retailers don't go to the bother of paying for and staffing their own forums out of their own pocket for the benefit of the community.
Yeah that must be it....

Notice quite a few people *side grading* from the 5900x to the 5800x3d. I’m intrigued, is it a worthwhile move? (For 1440p gaming)
I think it very much depends on the games you play, some may benefit from the extra clock speed of the 5900X others may benefit from the 3D VCache of the 5800X3D so it's very much worthwhile looking at benchmarks that contain the games / game engines you are most interested in (Gamers Nexus / Hardware Unboxed). Anecdotal evidence would point to the 5800X3D chip being better from a gaming perspective and I am sure that there are posts in the pages before this one from folks that have made the switch from 59000X to 5800X3D with their experiences.

I play MSFS and currently have a 5900x with a 4090, and thinking about swapping for a 5800x3d. Not sure I really want to invest in a whole new mobo, DDR5 etc for new AMD chips.

You'll have to eventually, though bear in mind more games will need more cores as time goes by. Cyberpunk has areas that bring 8 core CPU's to their knees for example.

You will only see a boost in some games/engines going from a 5900x to a 5800x3D, so check reviews/benchmarks to see if they are the kinds of games you play. Bethesda games benefit and VR gets a nice boost.

Have a look at benchmarks for MSFS but the ones i have seen show the 5800x3d as one of the best cpus for the game

Good idea and makes sense. Will be selling my 5800x3d when I upgrade and expect a fair few others to do the same so you might see some good bargains on the second hand market.

Not sure how this will work with the new zen 4 3dx processors if you need 8+ cores but you only have 8 vcache cores. Hopefully it work well but I don’t know and don’t have much confidence either. How will this even work with the 7900x3D having less vcache cores than a 7800x3D with gaming. Will it result in less gaming performance but greater non gaming performance?
