AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

Worth grabbing one of these to replace my 5600x? I am tempted.
I'm going to say yes. At the end of the day this is the best and last CPU for gaming (if that's your main usage outside typical day to day) which will come to the AM4 platform.

I had moved from a 5700X to the 5800X3D and while I'm at 4k with a 4090 I have noticed some great gains in gaming, especially when it comes to the lows. Everything feels more consistent and it's been nice and cool in my system thanks to the -30 PBO settings I've been able to apply through the bios of my Asus B550-F Gaming.

All depends on how long you're likely to remain on the platform, plus you'll get a bit back on your 5600X.

I'm also running Vengeance Pro 3200Mhz DDR4 which has been great.

im on the am4 platform, this be better for gaming than my current ryzen 9 3900x ? im looking to upgrade and wonder if it would be a worthy upgrade, or just move on to am4 plus is it ? or am5 ?
Depends how much you want to spend. You want to spend a grand minimum then go am5 with the new X3D processors then that would give a better performance in gaming. 5800x3D would be a nice upgrade as well for a fraction of the cost.

Any Zen3 is a big upgrade to Zen2 in gaming, just go look at some benchmarks or type "3900x vs 5800x3d" etc into google. Do some research.

Went from a 3900x to this chip. Hands down the best upgrade I’ve had on a pc since the original SSD drives replaced mechanical drives. All the annoying hitching / stuttering I would get in games just completely removed. I’m seeing fps increase @ 1440p on Dota 2 / Pubg of about 80 but sometimes up to 120!! Like wtf! Should have upgraded months ago.

Looking at getting a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D as an upgrade from my 5600X. Currently running a RTX 3080 10GB and game at 1440P, will I see much FPS increase and would either a 4080 or 4090 work well if and when I upgrade the GPU next ? I don't want to throw the whole system anyway like Mobo if I can get another few years out of the AM4 with a 5800X3D which is going for around £300 these days

Thanks

I went from a 5700X up to a 5800X3D and I have no regrets. In some cases there's definitely a general FPS improvement but it's the stability and the lows that make a huge difference. Everything as @beerglass007 indicates above is true, no hitching or stuttering at all, everything feels smooth during gameplay. While I'm gaming at 4k I still notice this since doing the upgrade. I haven't changed my RAM either and I'm still running with some 3200Mhz Vengeance Pro.

Plus this CPU is the most stable I've had over the Ryzen range. Only tweak I've made through my mobo is -30 PBO and it just runs really well and cool also. I haven't encountered one crash since install at the end of January. Plus you'll be able to make a small amount back by moving on your 5600x.

replace the cpu first, find out.
Many dont understand part of your gaming experience isnt more fps but smoother max/min/average which is what the 5800x3d helps with.
if your min fps goes up then game feels better to play simply.

CPU in and testing now. How do I drop the PBO to -30 on a MSI MSI X570 tomahawk please. I've not seen this before and new to me 8-)

Thanks

I bought two, one for each of my machines. My main rig had a 5950x so this was very much a downgrade in some respects but I play a lot of flight sims and the whole experience is now stutter free and in particular MSFS is playable. Main problem with the cpu is that my 3080 is no longer cpu limited and needs an upgrade!!!

On MSI bios it's called kombo strike level 3 will be -30

Would recommend run some CPU benchmarks at stock so can compare after , for me it dropped temps by around 6c power from 133w to 109w and sustains the clock speed so increasing performance

Thanks. Just tested in stock and was getting video issues in Warzone 2, the screen kept going on and off

Set Combo strike to 1 and currently video is stable but getting some glitches in game play

I assume the CPU isn't breaking my 750watt PSU. That appears to be pulling 500 watts when gaming and would only be 50 watts more than the 5600X ?
