AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

After seeing some of the YT videos, I decided to give overclocking things a try.

I've been useing the Ryzen Master software and Cinebench, and found I can get to
5.4GHz with 1.23 V
5.5GHz with 1.25 V
But if I then go into BIOS and add these settings there, then it won't boot.

MSI X670E Tomahawk
64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO 48000C30 6000MHz

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I had 5.45GHz working with the tomahawk x870 motherboard - 54.5 ratio and CPU loadline calibration control mode 8 set.

Currently just dropped a -30 to the Curve Optimizer, and the cores have gone up by 100-200Mhz (going from 5.05Ghz to 5.2Ghz), temps have gone down 10C (going from 80-85C odd down to 70-75C). Will likely attempt a tiny bit more later tomorrow or something (certainly during the day at least) but not really in any rush at the moment to get it done. As I'm still waiting on the Octo to get back into stock as OCUK and install that into the new rig so I can control the fans better.

:: edit ::
Core Voltage looks like it's sitting at 1.13v here. Not sure if looking at right thing in hwinfo64 (I had trouble identifying the same stuff for the 7950X two years ago until I finally got used to it about a year ago)

Back for a simple PBO tune, try starting there.
I just followed what most people have been saying here. I don't have a clue about OC'ing an AMD chip.

@Littlenose
Try a more conservative start. Instead of just jumping at -30. Try -20 or -15 test for stability. Then readjust in small increments.

If you are happy with the small 200mhz boost there is no need for you to wap the scaler on X10. X1 should be enough.

It is only if you want to go higher than the 5.4ghz limit then you would need to adjust the scaler more.

While the 9800x3d is a fully unlocked chip which you can overclock like any other CPU it comes to luck of the draw. While -30 is attainable for most not all can do it. But to be honest you have an excellent gaming CPU regardless just don't overthink it. Long ago I realised I was never the type of person who gets good clocking chips or graphics cards. In fact anything if a chip in it. This applies to memory as well.

There is only one time I can remember in all the time I have been here that I ever got a good clocking product and that was because I bought it off @LtMatt
