AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

I have a question I have a very modest undevolt/overclock on CPU. So -30 and +200 and I am happy with besides one thing. When I run occt/prime for multiple hours it's fine. Gaming it is fine as well no funky stuff going on. No blue screens. No freezes, etc. but tonight when I ran the aida 64 combined test it errors straight away. I have tested the CPU and memory separately and doing combined tests on occt and prime and for about 9 hours with no errors.

Both cb 23 and cb23 seem report the scores around the ball park of others and the same with time spy. Multiple hour gaming sessions with cyberpunk 2077 and the new indy Jones games and nothing to report.

But it crashes straight away on aida 64 and I don't know why.

Other useful information that may prove useful. So the motherboard is the asus x870e hero with the latest bios. It has windows 11 installed on a fresh new nvme a Samsung 990 pro. I installed the latest chip set drivers from AMD. The power supply is a brand new Asus 1000w platinum Thor PSU. And cooling is the artic freezer 420mm.

All have been working with no issues and not any problems I have seen so far but still it can't last longer than 1/2 seconds in aida 64.

Hmmm, not sure. I just tried it on my one with a -35 CO and +200 and it runs without issue.

So the first thing I'd ask is, have you tried dialing out all changes and returned to default settings and tried the combined test then? And does it work? If so, dial in the other stuff one by one until you find the culprit. Otherwise, if it's still crashing, there's a whole different issue at play then.

I just watched Linus videos on this CPU and wont you just get GPU bottlenecked with this anyway for gaming? You hardly get any performance boot is real life scenarios compared to a much cheaper 9700X

That £519 is just inflated due to current stock levels, expecting it to drop back to previous levels once stock issues are at hand.

I really no understand people that want to pay over the top

I think the problem these days there far to many people out there that has more money then they know what to do with

Some people just have the money to splash out, it is the best for gaming.

The 7600 or 7700 are great cheaper alternatives for high resolution gaming.

Because when you are spending a couple of thousand on a new PC, who cares about £50?

But it kinda runs deeper than that. Why is everyone even buying the 9800x3D? It's not the only CPU, yet the way people talk about it, you'd think it is.

Not everyone is buying PCs/CPUs for gaming. Met an ex-colleague recently who's now at a small tech startup who needed to buy some powerful PCs for running CAD/simulation software. Said they'd ordered from a UK PC company (not OC) and they had to persuade the salesperson that the really did mean to order some of their top-spec "gaming PCs" but without GPUs.

I'm upgrading from a 3700x and vega 64 (6 year old~ system) so might as well go all the way, and probably won't upgrade for a while again.
I just want the best CPU and GPU and that's it.

Obviously if you're on a budget or not getting a high end GPU then you won't need the 9800X3D and there are alternatives.

Finally built my system yesterday and spent today installing Windows etc.

Is there anything worth setting up? So far all I have done is enabled EXPO and all loading fine

Hi All!

I need some help about the tuning of the ram timings. My progress is drop down from 80ns to 67ns,but i think this can be inprove а litte more.

Please suggest what else can be done to further reduce RAM latency in this case?

The ram is : FURY Beast Black 32GB(2x16GB) DDR5 6400MT/s CL32 KF564C32BBEK2-32 - AMD Expo
