AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

ordered a b650 motherboard and ram plus a PSU from amazon to come today... motherboard and ram "lost in transit" apparently. I swear my local courier keeps stealing parcels. 15 missing deliveries in the last few years or so. Annoyingly I had to put the passcode in to get the PSU, (didn't even realise it was the same code for all 3) so half expecting him to turn around and claim it was delivered and I signed for them with the passcode.
Not happy, especially as amazon won;t even look into it for 3 days. so I probably won't get any parts before the 9800x3d.
I ordered a Samsung pro 990 ssd from Amazon, there was an issue with the delivery so it got delayed for an extra day. the Amazon package turned up I used the code then opened it, it contained an empty car freshener box, so something of similar size. B*stards could have left the air freshener in to make my pc smell nice. Amazon sent a new one today so all good.

Even if both ccds have vcache will the 9800x3d not still hold its own for gaming because it is only on one and so no latency penalty?
Yup it's likely.

Although the lack of TDP limitations now the cache is under the die may mean they give the 9950X3D and 9900X3D 170W+ TDPs so they can boost a bit higher than the 9800X3D and keep ahead in the benchmarks.

I think the 9900X3D and 9950X3D will have the ability to disable one CCD in the bios (‘turbo / gaming mode’) so will essentially be a 9800X3D with the ability to swap modes to a higher core, 2-CCD chip.

Just my speculation.

Asus has just added that feature to some BIOSes.

I don't understand what is new about this though, I'm sure it's been around for ages.

As far as I know, disabling one CCD has required some special script in Windows. I recall reviews for the 9950X mentioning that some script was provided by AMD to disable the second CCD for a gaming boost, when games are being played.

Edit: I’m probably wrong.

if it as good as we all hoping, doubt they will give free game ( we can hope thou). if amd gets this right, be great seller.
According to AMD its going to be just 8% faster than a 7800X3D so not sure what other people’s expectations are but given the price is likely to be £450–500 range I’m not getting overly excited.

The only reason I’m even considering buying one is due to the 7800X3D being jacked up back to launch pricing over the past couple of months.

I tested it on my X670E Gene with a 7950X3D, it basically turned a 16 core 32 thread CPU into an 8 Core 3D cache CPU, it disabled SMT and the frequency CCD, to enabled / disable it you have to enter the bios, theres no software way to do it nor automatic way to do it, its either on or off, and as its bios level, im going to guess windows has nothing to do with it, its just the same as you can turn any, lets say 12 core 24 thread CPU into an 8 core 16 thread CPU previously using core control in the bios, but im not going to enter the bios every time I decide to launch certain games which might benefit a tiny bit from this feature......seems pretty useless to me.

ASUS have added it to all their AM5 boards in a beta and are currently in the process of finalizing it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...Ug-uLlv-Asa8/edit?gid=937453961#gid=937453961

Imagine paying £500 for a CPU to just disable half of it, haha

Its is supposed to be multiplier unlocked too which would make it easy to overclock, I may buy one to just play with and then chuck it in the Mrs machine when I get bored of it........she steals everything else from me  but im not excited about it, just shear curiosity and hope for a dual 3D CCD 9950X3D, which should give a couple of hundred mhz over the 9800X3D......if previous gens are anything to go by, so 5.4ghz boost on both CCD's with 3D cache and an unlocked multiplier will be much more exciting, with potential to overclock it to 5.6/5.7ghz all core.

Funny you should say that had someone knocking on my door (twice) asking if I had her parcel seems the courier had half put it thru the letterbox (mine) taken a photo and strolled off with it, at least I never saw it and its not on my doormat. I guess its easier to put it thru someone else's rather than hers then they can say the other person has it (I don't)

Amazon drivers are exactly the reason I put a wifi camera outside, so when their useless customer services tell you it was delivered and the time is was delivered, I can then give them 5 mins of video footage to ask exactly where the driver delivered it too as he didnt appear anywhere near my door, ive taken them to small claims court multiple times for returns too, when different customer services come up with different stories about my returns, like the box was empty etc which was their excuse when I returned a 7900X back to them, another one said it was currently in the returns processing centre etc, and they would investigate it, but they never come back to you, just easier to photograph returns before you send them back and record everything, chats etc, then take them to small claims, when youve got proof that multiple customer service agents cant get their story straight, they dont have a leg to stand on.

I haven't seen any updates in here, so apologies if I missed it, but was on the phone to OCUK today and the CS rep on the phone confirmed the product page for the 9800X3D will go live "Around 2pm" on Thursday BUT he couldn't guarantee they will have any stock and it might just be a pre-order.

That would explain why no one from the shop has commented on it. :(

I assume this will go on sale with no preorder window whatsoever. Does anyone know what time or what time these launches have gone up in the past? I've seen midnight, 9:00, 10:00 and 14:00 when looking in various different places.

I want to make sure I'm not in work meeting, so I don't miss out. Thanks.

EDIT: See post below

LTTs comment, or lack of, was interesting on the WAN show.

Q: "Should I go with a 9800X3D?"
A: "We know too much, no comment, watch/read reviews before buying"

I'm taking that negatively, but maybe it's the opposite, so who knows. Let the theories fly!
