AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

That's like upgrading a 4080 to a 4080 ti. Pointless.

Sorry but I don't buy it. Yes there maybe a couple of people who would but the majority won't

Depends on where you draw your line for ‘pointless’

I drew mine at not upgrading my 5900X for a 9800X3D as I game at 4k…but each to their own!

Even going from a 4080 to a ti would get you more of an uplift than you would see going from a 9800x3d to a 9950x3d. If last gen is anything to go by, the 7950x3d and 7800x3d were pretty much even.

Why would anyone with a 9800X3D upgrade lol it's same CPU but just more cores

You answered your own question  9950X3D will be the flagship (best) CPU for overall use. Hugely faster in productivity (applications) than the 9800X3D, thanks to double the cores. Faster in some games, same speed in the rest.

Also likely to overclock better, since AMD bin the dies and give the best performing dies for the 9950X3D.

9950X3D also better value, since you're getting double the CPU (double the cores) without a doubling of price, assuming 9950X3D has the £749 launch price of the 7750X3D.

Many have paid £550+ for a 8 core 9800X3D, a 16 core for ~ £200 more is a better deal to many.

My PC freeze when the ram hit 50C during the bench and I use fan top on it.
2x16 Kinston 6400,1:1, 28-36-36-50 @ 1.48V.
The cooler which I use is VENGEANCE Airflow ,but with Noctua NF-A6x25 PWM fan, which is super quiet.
seems quite high to say its got a fan on it. makes me think that the kingstom ram you have doesnt have contact with the heatspreader thats connected to it. this kind of makes sense based on what ive heard in that not all memory manufacturers were adding thermal pads to all of the components on the dimm. in fact my kingston fury was hotter running by 10c than my g skill at the same timings. if your brave enough you could pull the heatsinks of the ram and add some thermal pads to bring the temps down below 50

Yes but we are talking about people who already have a 9800x3d. They wont bother side stepping to a 9950x3d . Only if they make money in there pc by doing productive work that requires lots of core count

You'd be surprised, there will be many that will upgrade to the best flagship CPU to match with their 5080/5090, even if already on a 9800X3D. This will help lower the price of 9800X3D closer to the £449 MSRP over time

I will need a 9950x3d because i am coming from a threadripper and i actually do use my pc for work.

But if all fails i will do 9800x3d build specifically for gaming only and keep my threadripper system for now

Many are in the same boat, bought a "cheap" 9800X3D for now until the 9950X3D launches.

Why did you say this was going to happen?

Mind you the cpu has only been out for 2-3 months!

Maybe ebcause the 9950x3d is imminent?
This is what i said in an earlier post in this thread:

"95% of people who are going to buy one have brought one already. The other 5% now just waiting for the massive price drops and over supply (includes me)."

5800x to 9800x3d i keep being tempted to jump, 4k with a 4080 on 240Hz oled
its a "would be nice" and i can afford it.
but £800 is a fair bit for marginal gains
im happy atm, finished robocop at 100+fps and now going ot try zero dawn remake i think. anoying thing is thats quite cpu limited... so mmmm
doom eternal at 200fps as a highy threaded engine was smooth as though

The next doom is something that will benefit by the looks of it. I mean you’ve got a 240Hz monitor, it kind of makes sense.

In search of better VR performance I just decided to just upgrade my 5800x3D rig to:

- 9800x3D
- MSI x870E Tomahawk
- Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB PC6000 CL30 EXPO

Managed to get it all for the equivalent of £890 (non-EU) which is ok as this will last me another 2-3 years like my 5800x3D did, with the added bonus that Zen6 will also be AM5 when it arrives so there should be no need to swap mobos for a while.

I have a Noctua Noctua NH-D12L and assuming that will do the job to cool the beast!
