AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Still amazes me when people call this disappointing as it's "only" 10-20% faster than the 7800x3d. :/
Saw one review (from a fairly big site, think it was PCmag) that gave it 2 stars out of 5 as it wasn't a big leap over the 7800x3d, but people tend to forget the majority of people don't have a CPU from last generation, many of us are rocking hardware from years ago and this will be a massive leap, even for 4k gaming (I mean the minimum frames)

I hope most people are swayed away from it to be honest, more chance of me getting one tomorrow then. :)

I just read that review. To be honest when you take the price into consideration I'm not sure it's entirely wrong. For 4k gaming I think you'd be better getting the 9700x and saving £140?

Havent seen any rep mentioning availability on here just that someone called OCUk and was told they had a lot on order. If other etailers have day one stock OCUk will also i am sure and they cannot comment because of NDA.

Feels like thsi is the first CPU order for a lot of people on here, its the same every launch. "When are reviews up," and "When can i order". Answers are always the same, reviews the day before launch at 2PM and product listed and available (most of the time) 2PM on day of launch. Pretty much the same for all brands CPU's and Graphics cards with a few exceptions (intel had preorders up before reviews as they knew there new generations was FUBAR).

If you are lucky and keep an eye on the forums you will occasionally get a link to order 10 - 15 mins early.

Surely NDA would also apply to graphics cards and there is never a problem with advanced warning there? Also AMD announced the price and date, so the only NDA bit would be confirming inventory? Which seems odd to me.

9700x £310
7950x3d £550
7800x3d £399

Does this CPU still make the most sense for me with a 5090 (next year) 4k native or 4k highest quality DLSS? I'll refer to your judgements because I can't decide lol. Purely for gaming.

If you are considering getting an RTX 5090, I don’t think you can consider anything other than a 7800X3D if you can’t stretch your budget to the 9800X3D.

You’d need to wait for reviews on the 5090 but given that you’d be gaming at 4K, it won’t make too much difference but I think going for anything less than the 7800X3D would impact your 1% lows.

I’d look at how the 5800X3D versus 7800X3D impacts gaming performance and take that into consideration.

I already have a 7600x. I think for £50 over the 7800x3D that makes 9800x3d a lot better. I think it's the 9700x that's the most tempting competition wise.

Oh yeah, the 7600X will deffo hurt performance of the 5090 but you could still stick with it, get the 5090 and see how your performance is IRL.

Gaming at 4K requires more from the GPU but I’ll bet your 1% lows would be impacted by the 7600X.

You’d have to decide if you want the 7800X3D or 9700X, I’d probably go with the X3D personally given how much better the 1% lows tend to be with X3D cache.

Why don’t you get the 9800X3D?

It's looking very likely I'll go that way. I did just sell my 7600x for £145 so either way I'll be getting a new processor! :)

Going to be 14:00 UK time :

Good to have confirmation. For whatever reason communication has been terrible here from OCUK for this launch.
