AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Decided I’m going to upgrade in the new year.

Is there a go to recommendation for ram or mobos?

At the moment I’m thinking a b650e and a 6800 ddr5 but it’s been like 6 years since I upgraded so I’m quite clueless
With the 9800X3D? 6800 not really a good idea, but B650E is alright, unless you want USB4 from X870. If you don't care about PCIE5 you can drop down to B650.

I'd look at the B650 Eagle on OCUK and see if there are any features that you want it doesn't have. If you're happy with it, you saved a bundle.

HUB's review of the 9800X3D had a small part on memory scaling. TPU also had a memory scaling article for Zen 5 (though less applicable to the 9800X3D).

I don’t think I’ll need usb 4 but I like the sound of pci-e in case the 5000 series or next amd gpus benefit from it

@LtMatt
replied to one of your post in 9800X3D thread on overclock. If you miss it I can put it here. I am confused and I would like you to try turning off core isolation if you have time. Or just below if I have the same settings as you in cyberpunk on my 14600K
Thanks
Hey LtMatt awesome setup as per usual. This is not a call out,not picking on you or anything.
I have bought 3x 9800X3D but I am confused by your video with 9800X3D and RTX 4090 where the fishes are in cyberpunk and it could be a setting on my part on my PC or I am misunderstanding your settings.

I have tested this and I can upload quick video at 1080P max setting with DLSS ultra performance and getting over 200FPS same place.

Also when I copied your low settings for benchmark I am getting weird results(it might be core isolation turned off for game ,could you try that core off)Avg 439FPS

Did you see any benefit going to higher PCIe for a GPU since like PCIe 2? It just doesn't happen in gaming GPUs - different matter for some other workloads but not games. That said, there are even B650 motherboards with PCIe 5 for GPU and M.2 (MSI has such, I have one of these, no need to go for the B650E either) - it's just a matter of pricing, as always. There are also older motherboards (and way cheaper) with USB 4 too, if you look around. These new motherboards are just a refresh, there's nothing really new about them, aside higher price.

I replied Gerard on oc.net. :)

Amazing thank you!

I think I’ll try and find a b650 one and stick the money toward the new case

HWU 45 game comparison, 7800X3D Vs 9800X3D. 8% across all games, matching AMD's claims perfectly. Honest marketing (which they needed after the 9x00 slides!).
While its an impressive product in isolation, its not that impressive when you're talking just an 8% uplift in nearly 2 years.

Remember when Intel were derided for bringing around 4% per year back in the mid 2010s

It finally arrived along with the rest of my build from OCUK!

Nearly had a heart attack when I opened my parcel from somewhere else to find a corsair box, but thankfully they had just put the CPU in there with bubble wrap for extra packaging. Phew.

Probably won't get a chance to build it until tomorrow, but at least it's all here now.

Some of the games are GPU bound ? Will be interesting to see the benchmarks redone with the 5090 and see the differences between the CPUs

Your 9800x3d arrived?

Not having enough day one stock is a strategy used widely now in the tech space to pressure consumers into rushing their purchase for fear of missing out.
How can consumers "rush a purchase" when all stock is sold within minutes and no new stock is available for months unless you buy from eBay?

I don't get how this is a good strategy for anyone?

It fosters FOMO and the desire for something.

Just like how saying ‘tickets are selling out!’ or ‘sale ending soon!’ has a similar impact. It’s sold out so it ‘must’ be good / essential.

Whether that’s intentional here I’m not sure.

This would make sense if the product was available, when it's impossible to buy except from resellers it doesn't. It just ****** people off and makes them look elsewhere where products are actually available.

yep indeedy. same Igpu as the last generation of Ryzen chips I believe. Very handy imo for troubleshooting or even light gaming if wating on a dedicated graphics card.

I find it useful for system building. I always build a new system without the GPU, then get Windows installed and all updated before installing the GPU and drivers last.

Yes it was, they had a VERY small amount that made it through customs, the rest is still at customs as well and arrives next week. I was one of the lucky few who got it at RRP before it sold out and they put the price up.
Fair play. I won't rest easy till I get mine through the post. I should be wave 1 as it was dead on 2pm. But mistakes happen.

Enjoy yours. :)

Got all my other parts ready, but no brain. Lol

Yeah I'd think the actual reviews would create the FOMO. I mean the Ultra 285 sold out, but no one had FOMO for that.
