*** AMD ThreadRipper ***

I kinda feel sorry for the motherboard manufacturers, from kabylake to coffeelake they've had like 9 new different chipsets that's they've had to design and build over the last 9 months. Must be a nightmare.

I agree.

5 motherboards + 2 inc (Prime, Strixx) on a TR4 socket/ X399 platform
39 AM4 boards of various chipsets
24+ (many coming) X299 boards in the mean time, with all of them having to support CPUs announced just as they had them on display, and caught the manufacturers by surprise (their words from Computex).
52 (+ 1 Extreme with monoblock) for Z270, a dead platform.
And possibly another 20+ for Cabylake just on release day.

So can i use my existing corsair vengeance 3200 dual channel 2x8GB memory kit on this threadripper? Or do i have to buy a new quad channel kit? just trying to make a budget and seeing what i can reuse.

If you get another 2x8GB to make 4x8GB yes, they have to be the same brand and model tho, or at least when mixing kits its best practice to get the same ones.

It'd be cool to see EVGA release an AMD motherboard but i have a feeling it won't happen, certainly not anytime soon. EVGA are too much in bed with Nvidia.

FYI - been benching my 4770k in prep for Threadripper build - found that my 4770k @ 4.4ghz scores 168 in single thread Cinibenech R15. 1950x in Anandtechs review scores 167 - essentially same single thread perf as a 4.4ghz 4770k - so certainly no slouch when it comes to single threaded perf.

Thats good to know, I hit 163 on ryzen [email protected]. But ryzen is **** for gaming :)

If you use AMD GPU is fine, and everything scales nicely. if you use NV CPU, pray for them to fix the drivers. (same issue SkylakeX has).

Not seeing an issue tbh

It seems to be a tombraider problem more than anything.
IF there is a problem, its kind of hard to prove at the moment giving that AMD doesn't have any fast graphics cards.
Perhaps when vega gets released we can dig deeper.

Watching part 2, it seems that its the 480 that has issues with ryzen lol.

These are from APRIL. A lot of water has gone through the Ryzen motherboard & ram optimisation since.

Look closely the per core CPU usage on the 1080 & Vega FE, on the 7700K @ 4.5Ghz.
You will see that most of the time the 1080 is using 1 core pretty heavily, while the Vega spreads usage more evenly.
Fps is the same between Vega FE and 1080 and both working at 100%. Consider how the performance is hit when you have 4Ghz ryzen there.

We spoke about this the other day https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/31045286/
1 game isn't enough to draw a conclusion.
