AMD to launch 300W GPU with High-Bandwidth-Memory

for me tdp can be at 350 **** 400 i dont care as long as it DELIVERS !!!
Have a look how much power does 290x draw with +200mv. I am looooking around 480w more or less !!!

More TDP ??? Whats the problem just add another 240 rad= sorted :D

is that entire system useaage?. My entire PC tower (OC GTX 780 SLI +OC high volts 2600k) only sucks up 660w when furmark and intel burn are running.

KillBoY_UK nope GPU itslef draws 480w on furmark. Thats when coils in my psu start to scream :D

opethdisciple yes and thats why i am getting one. More FPS in 3D gaming !!!! not to mention my 290x BF4 Edition is poor as **** clocker i need thoose +200mw to have card at crappy 1150mhz !!! TBH i think its worst clocking 290x on OCUK forums :(

Then the heat is then dumped into the environment the system sits in, energy does not simply disappear. This is nice during the winter months but not the summer.

Now water cooling is a good way to avoid this but unless a graphics card uses a AIO a lot of people do not want to water cool for what ever reasons.

Even if water cooled, the same amount of heat is being chucked out the case. With 3 Titans running in the Summer, I seriously struggled with heat and must sort out some air con for this summer, as I have no intention of changing out.

Nah, it'd be the tdp of the card as a whole, so it would be included anyway

I'm not so sure, it's ambiguous as to whether it refers to TDP and not a design target, whether referencing card or SOC.
TDP is somewhat arbitrary. A chip designed to use 300W can have it where ever it likes.

For the record I expect it to guzzle as much power as it can and hit temps it needs to. So long as the performance is there to show for it its fine. I just think drawing any conclusions as some have from the limited info is silly.

Back on topic after the disappointment that was tonga (GCN 1.2) AMD will need to come out with some much improved tech to keep the performance up and the power usage down.

As Hawaii or Tonga with more cores even with HBM is not going to work. Relay they need to aim for 40/50% faster than a 980 with the 300w TDP is true. Long are the HD 5/4/3xxx days when they where touting "smaller more efficient cores" which they where bashing nVidia with at the time.

Anyway's I want some competition it will only be a good thing for you and I even if its just speeds up the release of a full fat Maxwell.

Good tests...especially if you look both of them the same time.
Sooo if you overclock a 290X it takes 150W more....but if you overclock two of them they need only 15W more each...umhum

Custom Vs Custom , OC Reference Vs OC Reference the 290x still uses staggering more power the a old 780ti or newer 980's.

3 no problem lol

4 also easy.:D

It may have something to do with my family coming from Africa.:D:p

So you're saying you buy a high end graphics card based on how much juice it pulls from the wall? Even if the new AMD card is 30pc faster than the 980, you'll have the box for each in your hand, uhm and ahh for a bit before sticking down 500 notes on the 980 because it's a bit more efficient?

Waaaa when did i say i would not buy a card based on its tdp? i was merely pointing out the truth

We all know that more tdp=more heat that's why people were talking about it so if it uses more watts then the 290x its gonna need a really good cooler now isnt it :)

It uses about 20W more than the 780Ti...far from staggering.
It uses more than the 980 yes, but there's a generation gap between them.

You are correct sir :)

I remember reading up many moons ago and thinking "no way, water cooling should be better" but then the sciencey bit kicked in and it made sense :D

I don't know how you do it Kaap. I can game for 8 hours solid when the wife is at work and I have done my chores :D

20w difference ? at idle maybe. at load its 220w in HardOCp's (2 card setup) or 130w in a overclocked 2 card setup

Trying to spin it to sound like a 290x is not a hot and power hungry card is compared to its peers is as ridiculous. There one of the classic hot and power hungry cards , like the GTX 280, GTX480 or even the HD2900 pro.

Those that are honest would agree that the 290X is a hot running card but some don't care (fair enough) but a lot do. I fall into the latter category.

Fair enough just dont bash Nvidia fans round the head when there's a hot and hungry Nvidia card. I'm sure it will happen again :)

I was about when the 480 was released and it didn't worry me that it got ripped to shreds for the temps and I never bothered defending it, as it was true but the shoe on the other foot results in mass defense and untruths.

Unless the EU step in again and impose some power draw limit like they've done already elsewhere... was it kettles? I forget.

Yes, kettles and hair-dryers. It'll be GPUs next :p
