They might be 512meg seems ATI are trying to keep the cost down and let the users perhaps go for the option for 2 in crossfire.
But there are 1gig variants of the 4850 so no doubt it will arrive.

Looking like 4870's will be about £200 over here (give or take a gouge )

512mb will be fine for me, but not good for people wanting 1920 or above. They WILL need 1gb for any new games realistically or performance will be adversely affected.
