AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Yes way. Maybe if it was a GDDR3 card but like I said GDDR5 is not cheap.

No way, there's no way they'd really be charging that much for one.

That would equal a price greater than $499 (or close to) which we know ATi have said they want to keep under.

If a 1GB 4870 is that much, then how much is a 4870X2 GDDR5 gonna be? It'd have to be upwards of $800, which we know they won't do.

ATi want to smash NV on price/performance, judging by their latest 'trends', they won't be pricing their cards at these crazy levels.

Look at the 3870 and 3870X2, the X2 was in at quite a bit under £300 when it was released which lines up with their pricing schemes.

Everyone was saying the 4850 was going to be around £160 or possibly more. It starts at £118 including VAT.

The 4870 is supposed to be around $299 when it comes out, which would make its price around the £170 mark including VAT.

After we realised how how cheap the 4850 was/is, we should know even better that AT seem to be keeping to their 'promise' of under $499/£299 including VAT for their top most card of the current generation.

512mb version but not a 1gb version.

*facepalm*

Isn't it supposed to be the the 512MB 4870 that's going to be $300? If so, then we'll be getting them for £170-180 not £225.

I really don't understand where these pretend prices are coming from? It's like they're being randomly pulled out of...?

I say again, use the 4850 as reference point of how much the 4870 is going to cost. Look at how loads of people were making up pretend prices of these too? As I've said, they're supposed to be £100+VAT, which you can easily get them for, or slightly more. Not the £160 possibly more, that people were originally saying

You don't need to be a genius to work out that £100 + VAT is the same price as you'd get it in the US, plus VAT. Why will the 4870 be any different? I don't understand why or where the extra cost is coming from? $300 converted to £ equals £152 + VAT = £177. Just like the 4850 has been priced.

Close enough to £225 for you kylew?

We all know that they're like though. They like to charge an additional 20-25% on top of new graphics cards. Anyone with sense will get a 4850/4870 at their 'RRP' not gouged prices that OC are well known for. OCUK have basically upped both the 4850 4870 Prices by 20%, work it out. US Price + VAT + 20% = OCUK's prices. It happened with the GTX280 too, US price + VAT + 20%. It's too much of a coincidence to disregard it.

Just in case you can't be bothered to work it out

4850 US RRP $199 = £100.80 + VAT = £118 + 20% = £142

4870 US RRP = $299 = £152 + VAT = £178 + 20% = £214

GTX280 US RRP $650 = £329 + VAT = £386 + 20% = £464

kylew, or just compare ocuk's prices to their competitors, the gtx 280 can be had for £400 but ocuk charge £458, thats an enormous amount more:(

dont know why they like to rip off early adopters, its supposed to be the manufacturers only who do that, not the retailers aswell!

Welcome to a capatilist society.

Items are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And if they're selling HD4850's @ £140 then good for them.

Well it makes sense why they have the 'no competitors' rule, because they know how much they can overcharge sometimes. Hinting at alternative prices shouldn't be a problem really as people with any sense will do some shopping around anyway.

Whereas linking to cheaper products is a bit different. Think about it though, if you're saying a certain e-tailer has a graphics card (for example) that costs more and you talk about it, you're discussing competitor pricing, but would that be 'against rules' ? I find OCUK to be the cheapest for certain things, but way over the top for others.

I find it a bit patronising really, they seem to be the only retailer than I've witnessed price gouging so badly, it sometimes doesn't even subside once the cards have been out for moths either.

Well I bet they will be close to 3225 or I will eat poo, I'm quite confident in my non poo eating winnings as of late so meh.

Well of course you can very easily say that, as we already know what OCUK have in mind to price them at. But as I have to say yet again, use the 4850 as an example.
