AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

If the fan is stuck on 14% do you think this was done deliberately by ati? Reason i ask cause if these 4850's were clocking high right out of the box this could possibly put people of opting for a 4870 especially those playing in the lower resolutions as the gddr5 would not really be needed.

That could be a factor, but I'm pretty sure the higher clock speed benefits much more from GDDR5 than it would from GDDR3. I'll be getting 2 4850s at the end of the week. Does anyone know of any software to overclock them yet? And change fan speed? Also, how about a replacement heatsink? I'm liking the look of those akasa vortexxes that Azza's been banging on about lately :D.

Are you getting a GPU only or FC block Guru ?

I got a maze4 gpu block. Going to cover the other components in BGA sinks. Full cover blocks are a waste of money IMO as you have to ditch them with the card.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but 3800's and 4800's can't be Xfired.

Yup I discovered this yesterday when spending over an hour trying to CF with my 3850

No software is out yet. And anything that fits the 38xx should fit the 4850. I test fit my HR-03 and it fit fine, an accelero s1 will do the job as well...and I'm pretty sure the akasa vortexx things will fit too.

I wonder what that fud was about then? Didn't fudzilla say they had 'evidence' or something?

yeah it must have been BS...I tried all sorts of random things like switching the cards around in the slots, installing drivers for 1 then the other, basically did what my friends and I call jiggling the puter's balls til it does what you want it to for some random reason of its own.

yes with fanspeed at 100% ....i disconnected the fan control wire until I can my gpu waterblock arrives.

The stock hsf is actually not bad at all, I idle around 35-36c and get about 55-57c full load. It's just that when you receive it it's stuck on 14% :/

Which Brand do You have gurusan ?

HIS....at the moment they are all the same reference design though.

The Techpowerup review said the fans were scaling with Temp..although still hot !
Early 3850 and 3870's had the fan speeds locked down, looks like the same problem with some of the 4850's

My stock fan definately spun up faster as the GPU got faster, but it also had an annoying ticking to go with it, so it had to go!

Accelero S1 on it now and temps much better, even passive.
