AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Yeah if the G92 cores were in a severe shortage, then the GTS would have been in that same severe shortage. :)

But the 8800 GTS 512MB came out two months after the 8800 GT (GT came out in October, GTS came out in December IIRC), that'd've given them time to ramp up manufacturing on the G92 based cards.

Exactly, the GT's shouldn't have been in shortage if the GTS's were not, as if they have 2x cards using the same G92's, but those G92's are in a severe shortage, then both those cards would not appear in great quantites, so how come one of em did. :)

Yeah but by the time the GTS had come out, the GT's stock was starting to look fairly strong...

Im sure the GT's were still in shortage after the GTS appeared, as the GT's were supposedly going to be priced around £140, but were £180+ for months, due to being scarce.

They probably got the same trick lined up for their GTX 260's, as i wouldn't put it past em.

Spotted on the Gigabyte stand at COMPUTEX:

No GDDR5 for the 4850 by the looks of it, but in saying that I can't recall whether GDDR5 was only supposed to be for the 4870 :o

Spotted on the Gigabyte stand at COMPUTEX:

"Blu-Ray Disk full rate lossless audio". I wonder if it does have HDMI 1.3 then - this could be big card for HTPC enthusiasts if this is the case! For those who are not in the know, there is no way of getting Dolby True HD/DTS Master HD out of a PC using HDMI at the present time. It doesn't necessarily means it's true tho.

If it is true it will be one costly upgrade for me, a 4870 and a new £400 amp :D

EDIT: After seeing the box picture for the GTX 260 which also claims lossless audio, I am a little more reluctant now. I'm thinking it can't.

Hope we can start to pre order the HD 4850 because I'm building a new system will wait for this card to come out first

getting that and the quad core bundle on clockers

Thanks for the link Kane.
Quoted "We have spotted a RV770PRO demo system over at Computex and we have checked out the settings of the beta Catalyst drivers for RV770 series. The card can be easily overclocked to 700MHz core and as a result, the score for 3DMark Vantage is P6466"

Hmmm ...not much better than my Ultra even when overclocked, And I would imagine thats on a quad and I have a dual core, dissapointing :(

i agree, but then it is the Pro and not the XT. Dont forget the Pro runs at a higher fab process than the XT will.

Can we expect any refreshes this year? or will it be superceded by a new card again just a few months into next year?

I was lead to believe the RV770 Pro and XT were the same bar clock speeds and GDDR5 support. Both of them are supposed to be fabbed on a 55nm process.

The high-end card, the r700 4870x2, should be released later this summer.

No official word on any refreshes, but I would imagine not in 2008. Nvidia may release an "ultra" version of their GTX280 if r700 gets too close for comfort in terms of performance, and almost certainly a 55nm version of the GTX260 and GTX280, but I don't think they can really be considered a refresh.

156 Euro ->
179 Euro ->

Wonder if its true, and what could nvidia do to counter such a bold move.

Edit: Removed Links, two online stores have 4850 at said prices.
