AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

GDDR5 is more expensive...

Anyway i am pretty sure ATi wont allow for 4870 with GDDR3, the difference between GDDR3 and 5 is a lot, unlike 4 with 3. 4870 will have maybe twice the bandwidth of 4850.

Now 4850 with GDDR5, that might be interesting.

The video seems very realistic especially the urban scene at the beginning which looked more like an FMV rather than a something that was actually rendered in real time by the ATI card. The second model while nice it's just a single hi-detailed model.

BALLS a delay, i need them to get it out already, i am currently stuck with my 4200+ X2 with ONBOARD graphics... so pc gaming is out :(

(its going to be my media pc, a 780g mobo, & no point buying my new chip till the card is out as prices just keep dropping, but the money is burning a big hole in my shorts)

The delay doesn't affect my upgrade plans yet so i'm not bothered at. But what i don't know is why they arn't using faster memory for the 4850, i mean GDDR4 would be a better choice as they are limited by their 256bit memory interface so will be taxed by higher resolutions and AA. It's going to be a massive bottleneck in this item i think.

Isn't the X2 3870 on a 256bit interface also and that is doing pretty well at high resolutions?. I'm sure Nvidia's architecture gets dealt a harder blow on their interface than ATI do with HD gaming when using 256bit although I may have remembered incorrectly.

I wouldn't worry too much about this as I don't think it will be a problem and if it is to be affected then I'd say it would be minimal (speculation).

4870 for me I reckon. Unlesss the NVIDIA offering takes my breath away in regard of performance per pound.

Thing is.

Do I sell my GTS now and avoid the hit off the value. Or do I wait till late July for the 4870 and sell my card around then possibly loosing more.

It's basically the option of sticking with decent hardware for a month or using my spare card for a month (X300SE) :(

I'm not saying tha card will be slow, i hope. But i just meant comparativly it will drop more fps as the resolution and other settings go up when compared to the 4870 or the new nvidia cards.

But it is still the card i have my eye on as i only use a 22inch widescreen... but i do hope one with a better memory type does appear, i'm a sucker for useless stickers on hardware claiming new tech.

Hit in value...I just bought a OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS Extreme for £119 last week , the price today is £129 ? it wasn't on offer either...up by £10 in a week ?

Computex 08: ATI's business

ATI will launch its new X2 dual RV770 card roughly six weeks after it launches Radeon 4870 and 4850, RV770 based cards.

ATI plans to launch RV770XT and Pro in last week of June which roughly gives you mid to end of August like a realistic date when you will see R700 based cards. The reason is simple, dual driver is tough and ATi wants to polish it up as much as it can.

The name is still not decided and knowing ATI's new strategy it doesn't have to simply be Radeon HD 4870 X2 no matter how highly likely that is.

The card should be there just on time for back to school systems and of course it has two RV770 chips on a single PCB.

Well i am defo getting one as long as it isn't a complete disaster destroying systems which is very doubtful and wasn't planning on getting it till end of sept so i would know its ok and also get the early price gouging out the way. Nothing worse then buying a card and finding out a week later your impatience cost you £30-50 extra lol.

ill be getting a 4870 about 1 week before warhammer online goes live, little delays are fine as the games more likely to be put back longer anyways

There seems to be a monumental difference between this card and the pics of the new Nvidia card. I'm only talking about components on the cards though. This seems empty compared to the pics of the GT200 series.

Yeah I agree. It looks like they could easily shave a couple of inches off the card.
