AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

If ati bring the 4870 at around 200 i hope nvidia will drop their prices too if not i might just get a 4870 then for around 200,don't really want to pay over 300 for a card when a £200 card should be good enough for almost everything apart from crysis.

I really can't see it coming in at £200, some of the rumors are saying ATi might be going as low as $200USD for the 4870. Rumors have it that they're to be around the price of the 3870 when it launched. Let's hope some places don't heavily price gouge them on release. :D

I'm looking forwards to lodsamoneys post on GT200 being old tech =D. And nice post Loadsa, clearing up the launch days of all the cards. (Y)

if your joking fair enough, but if your not, then why say he will, when he hasnt said anyhting.

loadsa is correct about bitching about the 9series. and im behind him 100%, becuase its 2k6 tech jsut churned out again after being regurgitated and filed down.

now that the GTX280 will be coming out, its gonna be new tech, so he wouldnt bash it, for that reason anyway, if he does bash it (which im sure a lot of us will, mainly due to price / possibly drivers)

RV770 Preliminary Performance Revealed

We have received some preliminary performance numbers from CJ for Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 vs the current GeForce 9800 series lineup. Apparently, RV770XT with GDDR5 (160W) will run 1.3X faster than RV770PRO with GDDR3 (110W). Two key factors that contribute to the difference in performance between the 2 cards: a 100MHz core clock difference and a faster GDDR5 at 1.96GHz vs GDDR3 at 1GHz. Interesting, RV770PRO will run 1.25X faster than GeForce 8800 GT/9800 GT while RV770XT will run 1.25X faster than GeForce 9800 GTX.

these numbers are a bit of nonsense as the card have 1.25x more steam processors 480 in 4870 it does not mean they cant be faster then 1.25 times.

you have to consider as it going to be 512 bit to witch should increase performance if used right and with ddr5 ram should be a roar power aka killer :p

you have to consider updated design of core to. so people who calculate only by dividing steam processors are wrong.

You just to have to wait for decent reviews game benchmarks to know what performance they actually will give.

Well 1.25 over a 9800gtx is fine as at high res with much more memory bandwidth should be a lot faster as 9800gtx sucks with its 256 memory bus and gddr3. I think as the rez goes up the gap will widen especially when aa is applied if ati have fixed that problem. New rv770xt has around 126 GB/sec memory bandwidth if the specs are to be believed v 70.1 for the 9800gtx should be a very nice card for the money when it arrives.

I'm aiming in the direction of the more value orientated ATi release over the NVIDIA. NVIDIA are going to have to price theirs very well or at least have a killer product in order for it to be worth it over this.

NVIDIA have acted like ****s recently and it makes me wonder if they should get more of my cash.

No he said "1.25x faster than the 9800GTX" which means it is 2.25x the speed of the 9800GTX, i.e. over twice as fast as the 9800GTX, which is quite clearly untrue.

What he meant to say is "1.25x the speed of the 9800GTX".
