AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

oh yeah I know that.. I hated my 7950GX2!

point being the 8800GTX was comfortably faster than it so it could justify a decent price hike.

I know I'm passing comment on random screenshots but it looks like that might not be the case this time which would suggest that releasing the 9800GX2 when they did might have been a bit dim which seems to be a running theme for all the 9 series.

Hence I didn't do straight $ > £ I added on VAT as well.

Of course there'll no doubt be a bit more added on top, but I don't think it'll be a million miles away from the £200 mark.

Especially as the 4850's will be going for ~£130 and they are essentially the same card minus GDDR5.

Like others have said you need to add import duty and then VAT and then a premium cause they don't sell to Europeans for the same price as Americans due to the market been smaller ()

So $329 probably will equate to £230-£240 over here.

GTX260 looks like it will now be only £15 more than the 4870.

Being an optomist if nvidia are lowering there prices i think they are in trouble this time round maybe for once in the last couple of years they are on to something good. I personally think ati have got a stronger line up when the 4870x2 comes into amds lineup. Nvidia never lower there prices unless they have something to worry about. My mate paid 520 for his 8800gtx from this site on launch as there was nothing to rival it. This time i think ati don't have the performance to get near the gtx280 but i don't think the 4870 is to far away from the gtx260 so they having to lower there prices to stop people buying the 4870 over the gtx 260.

I presume if the 4870 is any good NV will just respond with a GX2 of some description, these dual GPU cards are hardly rocket science.

If it is true what they say about the 260/280 success rate is low and not many to a wafer being on 65nm so 2 would cost a arm and a leg and be very hot so i would think they wait until 55nm as the x2 is out about a month to 6 weeks after the 4850/70 but could slip.
280 has at least 6 to 8weeks i think until x2 so they can and will shift a lot of 280's by the time the 4850/70x2 comes out

to be honest this wasn't what I was getting at!!!

sooner or later there will be either a 260 or 280GTX "m" ie a mobile version, stick 2 of them on 2 pcbs and you're laughing. Just because it couldn't be done now, once they're well into mass production it WILL become an option.

Nvidia GTX280 GX2 Central Heating Edition to be honest.

Hahah, very true.

They'd be MAD to put two GT200's on one card. You'd need at least 3 PCI-E power connectors being that the GTX280 supposedly has 6-pin + 8-pin. Maybe 3 8-pins would do it. :o

Even after a shrink to 55nm it's hardly going to be the greenest of cards (okay so it's nVidia, but that's not what I mean), as it's only going from 65nm -> 55nm.

Yes but we all know this due to the 55nm shrink that's been talked about for ages because of the 65nm let down ATI experienced (R600). Mobile GPU and the 55nm GPU should be able to be GX2'd up.

Not until they get it on 55nm die. They will never put a gx2 together with the current chip. Power useage is 450w for starters and the heat generated would be very hard to get rid off.

It would have to have the clocks so turned down the gain wouldn't be worth it.

Plus cost would be £800+ therefore no market
