Well its looking good in Crapsis.
And CoJ.
Edit: Oh, and Vantage to an extent.

Well its looking good in Crapsis.
wow if its close to 8800gt in sli and its on stock in crapsis it should be quite good card + all ati cards have great performance in source engine games. maybe ati will be back in the game. we still to see 4870 performance not speaking about later card editions 4870x2 / 4850x2. and good overclocking potential
... Wow, that actually puts the 4850 scarily close to GTX280 territory.
(edit: y'know, being SLi GT's should perform very closely to the 9800 GX2, which in turn level-pegs with the GTX280 on average)
Where is this coming from? Most things i have seen puts the 4850 at ~9800gtx level, and closer to a 8800gt in Crysis probably due to it's TWIMTBP nonsense.
Also slightly worrying is multiple power connectors for the 4870, does this mean 4 on an X2 ??...Bit much power and heat arriving in the same place for My liking
No, not necessarily, IIRC the 4870 has 6-pin + 6-pin, those're two 75W connectors, add into the equation the 75W the PCI-E slot gives and we've got 225W of available power for the 4870, which should be more than overkill. Chances are we'll see 6-pin + 8-pin on the 4870 X2, which should give 75W and 125W respectively, and the 75W from the PCI-E slot, gives us 275W of total power available to the card.
Wouldn't go by the POS crysis bench, i score 20 average at the same settings with a single GT, means nothing.
But I thought the GT beats it like you said?
I'm confused now. Fact of the matter is the 4850 is looking to be the faster card in certain games and that's too much for fanboys like you to swallow
all ati cards have great performance in source engine games.
No, no, no, benchmarks mean nothing, they can vary wildly and show nothing of pure processing power.
It's not necessarily a bad thing. Just because it requires 2 x 6 pin connectors doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to draw all that power all the time; it'll only draw what it needs. IIRC the thinking behind the 2 power connectors is to give overclockers extra power if they need it.Also slightly worrying is multiple power connectors for the 4870, ...
+ really really fast CPUs have great performance in source engine games.
