AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

I think you are right, and that is why I want the 4870 :)

ATI have said that both the 4870 and 4850 will come with 512Mb as standard, but that they won't stop 3rd parties from putting 1Gb on their boards.

So - assume 512Mb cards on release, with 1Gb cards to appear at a later date.

23rd I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong anybody

Isn't that for the 4870 in general?

No manufacturer has specified a release date for a 1Gb card, or even (to my knowledge) confirmed that they will be releasing a 1Gb version. I'm sure they will come, but I will be surprised if they're available on release-day.

Another week stuck with a 7200GS waiting for this..

:o

Nevermind I bought a new backup (X1900XTX) which should be here tommorow and I can get back to some BF2 :p

No.

How does 1280x960 with NO AA/AF and uber low settings sound.

Pretty ****?

It is. I even overclocked the POS and it made no noticeable difference :p

Reminds me one day at work when I tried to play doom on a 286 with integrated graphics. Had a 2" window on desktop playing at about 10fps

in p45 u dont have two lanes of pci @ x16 i thinks its like x16 and x8 im not really sure someone else confirm so if u crossfire u not get full potential of the second card

As stated 1 trillion times before.

P45 is 2 x 8x PCI-E 2.0, which is same as 2 x 16x PCI-E 1.1 so yes you will get full potential of the 2nd card.

so if u have two x16 pci-e 2.0 it should be still much better then two x8 psi-e 2.0 should be in theory

If you have a graphics card which needs the bandwidth, then yes in theory.

However, even the GTX280 does not use the bandwidth of a 16x pci-e 2.0 slot so maybe next gen.

Each lane on pci-e 1.1 sends information at a rate of 250 MB/s

Pci-e 1.1 16x is a transfer rate of 4 GB/s (250 MB/s x 16) in each direction.

Pci-e 2 doubles this so a 16c pci-e slot gives a transfer rate of 8Gb/s in each direction.

You will lose 20% in overheads due to encoding so pci-e 1.1 16x is 3.2Gb/s and pci-e 2.0 is 6.4Gb/s.

I was trying to find exactly how much bandwidth a 8800GTX uses but failed. However, I did find out that a 8800GTX is hardly affacted running at 8x on a pci-e 1.1 slot so somewhere around 1.6Gb/s or slightly more.

Therefore even at 8x speed a pci-e 2.0 slot will give 3.2Gb/s which is double what a 8800GTX needs and probably still above what a GTX280 needs.

Future proofing get a dual 16x pci-e board but what are the chances of you having two cards in crossfire on that board which need more than 8x speed before you upgrade the board?

Just looking at the GT280 reviews- struggles to beat the 9800gtx2 in a lot of games. If ATI get a stable 4870x2, with minimum stuttering, which is using two chips that are ~25% faster than a 9800gtx then they should will be VERY competitive in the high end this time around. The heat/sound will probably be just as scary!

Well the GTX280 is 39dBa at idle and 46dBa under load

The noisiest thing in my system only generates 18 dBa.
