AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

And any indication when OC will have them in? looking for the 4870 and a finally price tag would be helpul to see how much more i have to save.

I think the 4850 is out in two days with the 4870 out a few days later.

Expected price of 4870 to be £230ish so work on that for now.

Both out on the 26th. ATi delayed the 4850 release so they could bring them both out at the same time.

Really is a pain. I want to purchase a gx2 but with the uncertainty as to how much performance/pound the ati lot will offer it's putting me off.

It is the fact we don't know how much they are going to cost really (just a guess) and we don't even really have a clue how they will perform.

It is even worse because the amount of SP seems to be different depending on where you are reading. The one thing that makes it a little easier though is the 280 is so expensive for the performance it offers... which means that the new NV cards aren't going to get purchased.

Interesting that Amazon says 480 shaders and jimmyz says his card has 800 shaders.

Looking at the teraflop claims I would say it has got to have 800 shaders plus I can't see why Jimmyz would lie so I reckon Amazon got it wrong. Or I hope they did. :(

Has anyone noticed how well the 4850 seems to scale when clocked?

at XS jimmy raised the core clock only 75mhz (625->700) and the memory just 107mhz (993-1100) and got over a 1000pt increase in 3dmark06.

Probably, the retailers are more likely to get that sort of stuff wrong than a tech site.

Prices seem to be inline with what ati said $199 for the 4850, $299 for the 4870 and leaves it open for Ati to stick to their promise of $499 for the 4870X2 which i like the look of. If that is how it pans out then we the customer will definately benefit.

The other thing I have to say before I wrap this all up is that I’ve tested the HD 4850, and I’ve tested it in Crossfire. Now, if I hadn’t tested those cards I may have been more impressed with the GTX 280, but I have. I’ve seen the performance figures the cards put out. We also know the price on a pair of HD 4850s is going to be under $600 AUD, while the new GTX 280 in stock form seems to be launching at the absolute cheapest in Australia in the low $700 AUD area. Ouch.

Notice 800SP's ;)

The SP number of RV770 is not 800
2008-6-16 13:39:3

We learnt from AMD that the number of SP inside RV770 isn't 800. Actually, this number is more than 800sp, but AMD hasn't told us the exact number.

But you can image 850 or 840 sp are actually put inside the RV770 chip, AMD only opens 800sp to consumers, the left sp have been shielded.

We hope someone or some software could open the shielded sp for us.

Anyway AMD will shown a live demo of RV770 with a frog as the protagonist.
