AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

well thing is against a stock gt its about a dead heat.but you can get gt highly overclocked version for just over 100 quid now.

so guess its just how much they want for these 4850s as if its only 1 fps or 2 prefer the extra 30 in my pocket.

My last post on this as i don't want to upset people too much :D

GPU-Z just displays whatever the author put in a text document. There is screens of it displaying both 480/800.

Quote from dailytech from yesterday:

Yesterday tomshardware also reported that it had 480SP. Both of those sites are usually creditable.
Finally i will ask again, how can a 2.5 times increase in the number of shaders result in a ~20-30% increase in performance. Assuming the 4870 will run at similar speeds to the 3870, 750/775, then it would be inline for a 50-60% increase- i.e 320SP>>480SP.

Enjoy the next week!

Well Wizzard has got a 4850 now which is why I presume he has now changed it to 800sp.

All the people posting benchmarks on the net all say 800SP.

The websites listing it for sale say 800.

And not sure about your last point. A 4850 is posting the same results as a 3870x2 not just a 20-30% increase over a 3870. Don't forget the 4850 is only running at 625Mhz and a 3870 runs at 775Mhz with some running at 825Mhz.

If it only had 480SP I would say the results are incredible since it is beating overclocked GT/GTS and almost matching overclocked 8800GTX in some benchmarks.

Performance seems on par with a 9800GTX which you just wouldn't get with 160 extra shaders running at 150Mhz less speed.

Where is it a dead heat? The Crysis benchmarks on xtremesystems shows it at stock to be beating all the 8800GT at vastly overclocked speeds on the crysis benchmark databases on ocuk forum?

So a stock 4850 = a top end overclocked GT (and not meaning the manufacturers overclock but high 700's and 800's) so it will be much faster again once the 4850 has been overclocked.

Nobody knows yet, however, how these cards will overclock as CCC only lets you run at 700 max which is stable but only a 75Mhz overclock.

That bench Greebo links to was done on an E8400 @ 4Ghz not a Phenom - but even so it's not a quad although the 45nm C2Ds now are very fast for games so makes sense!

Really looking forward to these new cards - looks like some real competition for NV :)

well from the link to review i posted(few posts up) in cryshizzle the gt lost by 4 fps roughly.both cards at stock.so its roughly the sameish in my eyes.these cards are in budget value section really so 30-50 quid difference for three to 5 frames, i d take the cash.as already said as well the gt is a high overclocked version so it would probably be the same as the stock 4850 but save me 30-50 quid.

Fair comment. I am just waiting for a proper round up ran on the same machine of a 4850 and xfire 4850 vs 8800gt/gts, 9800gtx, GX2, GTX260 and GTX280 with a selection of games and not just crysis before I decide on the card.

That and how high these 4850 overclock. If you can get them to 800-900 then they will pull way ahead of the gt's.

yeah me too mate im buying eiher the 4850 or the gt i mentioned not fan boy of either just want best bang for buck.guess well have to wait till this time next week.

and its cpu limited?

just want to see the graphics card 4850 vs the gt .both are at same cpu speed so its a fair comparison.its supposed to be against the gt as a rival so thats what we need to see.on the whole it looks a little bit faster.but this is where the price comes into it.this is in the budget type section for all those gamers that cant afford mega prices and if there both roughly the same performance the one that is the cheapest makes most sense.
