AMD to unveil Zen 4 CPUs at CES 2022

A very strange unveil. Leaks on twitter said these were being mass produced since mid November and availability is going to be "Spring 2022"... so basically mid April. How is it taking near enough 5 months to mass produce an 8 core CPU?

Most likely going to be £400 but when you can get a 5900x right now for under £450 what's the point.

If it is £400 and it is showing to be 15% faster compared to a 5900x which bottom end is £436 but average £465 to £500 still at moment then there still a point but it is expensive in my opinion.

Still feel it needs to be released at £360 to compete against the 12700k rather than the 12900k in honesty. But ah well. Seems it basically good for people on 3000 series CPU's to upgrade.

"Spring" release is a bit vague also, I'd be surprised if Zen4 launches in 2H 2022 just a few months later if this is the case.

I was hoping for availability in the next few weeks.

Make no sense to buy Intel now at all.
I will upgrade from 5600x to 5800x3D as it makes a ton of sense.
(no need for new mboard nor ram)

Yeah it was always spoken about like late Q1 originally from what people suggesting. Tbh I was expecting March but this seems more like end April/early May and sorry but one chip isn't going to stop a late November/early December drop for Zen4.

Yeah as said there is a big group that will go this way. But if you are looking at an either or with a fresh build they still need to price it right. But that only makes sense if it isn't cheaper to get a new CPU and Mobo from Intel with the lower end Mobos dropping before then so pricing looking to be all in for a 12700k and board for around £440-£450 so CPU needs to be at least not more than that worst case but I still think that almost £100 more than should be because a 15-20% boost over the 5800x at £295 is a huge amount of cost extra tbh.

That was dissapointing.

Makes no sense to spend $800 on a 5950X when a 2700k will beat it in gaming and esentially match it in productivity. AMD looks like it might *barely* pull ahead in gaming...in a few months...but won't get anywhere near the 12700k in productivity.

That was dissapointing.

The 5800x3D is looking to be faster in gaming by about 20% over the 12700k and it is dissapointing? Also we have no idea on price so no way to judge. If it comes out at more than the £420 MSRP of the 5800x it isn't good but if it comes out at the 12700k current price of £360 then they are onto a solid winner there for that one chip.

Eh, look at the slides, it's barely faster than a 12900k, slower in CSGO, and you reckon 20% faster than a 12700K, put the pipe down.

And this is at 1080P, who cares?

20% isn't measly gaming uplift for a CPU upgrade though is it? All comes down to price though.

If it's just one game that has 20% it is. Need a thorough review with 20+ game titles tested, an average taken, where I fully expect it to lose overall to the 12900k.

Price is also key - chiplets aren't cheap, would be funny if it launches at £600 :D

It was also 17% faster in FFXIV so depends on the game. Since the 12900k is about 5% faster than the 12700k was approx. Could be 10%% on average overall but it still a chunk more for less monies hopefully.

20% from a 5600x to 5800x3D in discussion there. Edit: as said it needs to be at £360 for it to be any good and certainly no more than £420 to be okay.

Where did you see 20% over a 2700K?

I was interested in improving productivity tasks while also getti g a boost in gaming performance. AMD isn't offering me a part that can do both. Intel is.

I would consider staying on AM4 if AMD could at least compete on price, but when they fail to compete on price or performance, that's a tough sell. (To a non-fanboy at least)
