Pcore/Ecore setup. Zen4 should take the lead over RPL and then lose it to MTL.
Where is that from?

Hmm. So no mention of Threadripper then? Shame, I'd love to see an upgrade on that part.

Yeah, same here, was really looking forward to rocking a nice 5000 series Threadripper system by now... I guess they've got the HEDT market covered already so they're just ignoring it, shame really :(

Hmm. So no mention of Threadripper then? Shame, I'd love to see an upgrade on that part.

Threadripper was designed to beat Intels HEDT chips, it didn't just beat them it completely killed them. So Threadripper is no longer needed because Intels HEDT lineup is end of life and it's silicon can be better used to make Epyc chips.

So at this point that's all there is to it, Threadripper requires good quality silicon, the same silicon that's needed to make the much higher profitability Epyc chips and because AMD no longer needs to make HEDT chips because Intel no longer does, this silicon will be used for Epyc

It's a shame that Threadripper is untouched in two years, and perhaps if AMD had the capacity they would have released updated Zen 3 products. But that's not the case and after 16 cores there is only one name in the game. TR Pro looks like it will get Zen 3 for those who can afford it.

So in a few months the best gaming processor you can buy will cost only £400. Not bad in that respect at all.

Zen 4 looks tasty doesn't it. I wonder how many cores we will be looking at for the top spec chip?
Where was the price shown up in the slides? As for all we know AMD may charge £500+ for this if it's the halo gaming CPU.

Yeah its annoying that TRX40 is seemingly a dead end product.

The target audience for TRX40 got what they paid for - a multicore monster (for the time) that performed it's job well and is now end of life.

Not meant for consumers looking for an upgrade path for a few years - should have gone AM4 if that's what you wanted, you could have dropped in a 5950X by now.

I buy every platform to play with so I have 5950X 10900k and will be getting the 12900ks just think its a shame they dropped it even x399 got 2 gens, but they are so far ahead on HEDT I can understand why.

Threadripper are high margin, i'm sure if they had the capacity they would...

I think AMD is using its TSMC capacity where it’s needed most. The demand for home systems and servers has probably taken priority. With Zen 4 being close to release and DDR5 the Zen 3 Threadripper have probably fell victim to the pandemic.

There was rumours of Zen 3 Threadripper Pro, it could still happen but the problem for people like us is AMD data centre CPU's are really hitting the spot with huge hyper scalers, EPYC is in very high demand, the latest is Facebook with their "Meta Verse" I can't even begin to imagine how many CPU's they will need for that...

Not sure that is true except in maybe a few corner cases. It's typically 5950X > 5900X > 5800X > 5600X. Highest clocking parts + most L3 cache win overall.

Correction: i5 12th gen Alder Lake (or greater) > 5950X > 5900X > 5800X > 5600X in gaming ;)

Also the same for energy efficiency when gaming. I know you mentioned how you're planning on running your 5950X at eco modes to save power, it would workout cheaper for you to upgrade to a 12th gen CPU, as these are so efficient in gaming :)

I know you are trolling, but the post I was quoting was specifically about AMD parts.
The 5800X was frequently better than the 5900X in gaming, though.

As always, we get very little from the show and tell and reviews will show us what we need to know.

Gaming performance is so close nobody would be able to tell the difference. It’s hilarious the level of importance placed on a few percent difference in some games.
