AMD to unveil Zen 4 CPUs at CES 2022

I'm afraid it doesn't make sense from a marketing point of view. An 8 core CPU titled something like '7800X' could be priced upto $450 (Even though the 5800X was considered overpriced by many). It would have to be clocked substantially higher to be worth the extra $150, compared to a $300 8 core CPU.

Wccftech is just taking a shot in the dark and hoping they get it right (but it probably won't matter much to people if they are wrong).

They're saying 4 models on launch because they are ruling out a '7800X' or '7600' (and lower models). There's just no way they could know either way.

Eh? Where have you been for the past 6 years? This is what AMD has done since Ryzen's inception. Why would they suddenly change?

Yes it could. It's called the 7800X3D. V Cache versions aren't a tacked on SKU this time, they're part of the product line from inception. An 800 SKU absent from launch is clearly intentional to give a proper slot in the lineup for the de-facto gaming CPU that was proven last gen.

For all the speculation they make, following the release pattern of the past 6 years is hardly a "shot in the dark".

What, other than the leaked AMD slides which had 7600X, 7700X, 7900X and 7950X as launch SKUs? And even if the leaks are bogus, 6, 8, 12 and 16 cores at launch is historical precedent, it's not some baseless mentalism to suggest AMD will do this for a 3rd time in a row.

It seems pretty doubtful that AMD will price the 7800X3D at $450 (or even in $550). This CPU is likely to go against the top tier 13900KS, at least in games.

If it released much later, we might see more affordable prices (like with the 5800X3D).

An 8 core V-cache Zen 4 CPU hasn't been confirmed, they might move it up a tier instead and make it a 12 or 16 core product (or both). They aren't limited by power now (much), so that's quite possible.

I never said the 7800X3D would be $450, I said it fits the nomenclature in the product stack. There is a specific gap in the naming convention to properly position the game-focussed 8 core this time around, rather than shoe-horning it into a weird spot like last time.

Hang on, you poo poo videocardz for leaks that actually make logical sense, bu throw this totally illogical speculation out there? Seriously, are you posting to get your post count up, or just so bored you're not paying much attention? Because you're literally not making any sense.

Of course there's going to be a V cache 8 core, why wouldn't there be? It was a technical triumph. Why would AMD not do it again? And why would AMD move the V Cache SKU up to 12 or 16 cores when the types of productivity workloads those SKUs are aimed at don't benefit from lots of cache anywhere near as much as gaming, which is why the 8 core got the love last time around?

Dude, take a breather and collect your thoughts.

those am5 blocks look good tbh, with regard to am4 coolers looks like new mounting screws will be needed as the new ek blocks screw directly into the new x600 series boards

pre order prices are lower than what videocardz say too :) (preorder price perhaps or?)
EK suck though.

interesting. So you have to buy a 7900X if you want high clocks . Wonder if the 7700X will be able to clock to 5.6ghz?

Dread to think what the X3D prices will be like.

I guess the decent/high end silicon must be somewhat limited, hence the 5.4ghz of the 7700X?

I wonder if boards will start coming out beforehand. Looks good, it’s a pretty solid improvement over 5000 series. I still recall when we had years of marginal Intel upgrades, so these kind of performance improvements on a single generation are impressive! (To me at least!).
