***AMD Trinity review thread***

There really are some fantastic deals going second hand wise, make buying new a harder decision.

There was a 1100t phenom II going for something like £80 not long ago. Hex Core black edition phenom II. Nearly bought it myself and didn't even need it lol.

In the last 6 months has gaming suddenly becoming heavily threaded? No. IPC's still important for gaming.

As for martini1991's general posting being negative with regards to AMD... Well you do realise its because AMDs newer chips are generally poor compared to the competition? and single core IPC is a damn good benchmark with regards to purchasing. Go IPC first, ALWAYS. multithreading support second.

Its common sense due to what most software developers code for!

Why does it always have to come down to amd vs intel for christ sake, Just because someone sticks it to one of the companies, you do realise it can be on the basis that that particular company has released a pretty duff product? Rather than just company hate.

Bulldozer itself was meant to come out with an IGP (As far as I'm aware) and many reviews suggested that the next generation would (As opposed 2 different CPU sections)

The server workloads are highly multi-threaded,so benefit more from having such a CPU ATM. Hence why the Bulldozer CPUs and the Intel SB-E CPUs don't have on-die IGPs ATM. However,AMD will start to integrate IGPs onto their server CPUs eventually IIRC,as a roadmap did indicate it.

OTH,the software support needs to be there,so this is why AMD is going on about HSA and trying to get companies on-board.

Plus some parts really have no problem being second hand, CPU's.

However,I don't see you spamming every thread,saying buy secondhand from thirdhand sources(not them). Some people do repeatedly and its annoying,since if someone who is noob follows that advice and then finds their product is faulty,their money is down the drain. The people who suggested this course action then mysteriously vanish from such threads. If I sell something to someone I give them a few months warranty for example,but you don't find that on that famous auction site from private sellers.

I have bought secondhand a few times too,but I know unless DOA,its a risk IMHO especially with older graphics cards.

That's why I'm so negative towards Trinity's CPU side.
These are the cores going into Vishera with some L3 cache.

The worst case situation we expected of Bulldozer was that'd be a Phenom II X8, it was worse.

Now its successor is looking like it'll be a Phenom II X8 with higher clocking.

I'm excited about the prospect of AMD returning to form, but I'm not going to pretend what they're offering today CPU side is anything more than they've offered before.

Cpus aren't overly important in gaming full stop, the gpu is and as we know that is this chips strength. Gamers on a budget certainly shouldn't consider Intels similar priced cpu.

One thing I do know is that AMD are in all the new consoles next year and there's a reason they are sticking with their highly threaded scalable design.... They know a lot we don't.

CPU's are important in gaming, but it's also a balance thing. Trinity's strength is it's IGP, I haven't said it isn't, it destroys Intels IGP offerings, even Llano makes quick work of the HD4000.

And consoles are different story entirely.

Why don't you wait for Vishera to be tested before jumping the gun and poor scorn on AMD.

You don't know anything about it yet to bash it with.

Trinity is NOT intended to compete on the discrete GPU gaming market.

In gaming they aren't. There's plenty of rumors suggesting highly threaded cpus with not impressive ipc.

I wonder if the PC market will be playing 'catch up' again when the new PS or Xbox comes out? I remember the Xbox 360 being quite a bit better than current gaming rigs when it was released late 2005... The best gaming PC's only used dual core CPU's and 'unified shaders' were pretty much unheard of with gaming GPU's at the time.

I don't really get excited over console releases, but i'm interested to see what surprises they have in store this time :).
