The 4k Doom results were nothing special, Googling the newer Doom Vulcan reviews show that a stock clock 1080 hits an average of 61 & minimum of 56 at Ultra 4k and a Fury X hits 55 & 46 respectively.

Taking that into consideration makes the result on Vega not look that good, The problems all the hype where people are acting like the drivers used were totally out of whack for Vega as if there will be a massive increase once they're fine tuned, The thing is I do not think they would have shown it if the drivers were that bad, They may get a bit of an improvement but I doubt it'll be massive like some are hoping for.

If they can give us a 1080 beater that wins in DX11 titles as well as DX12 & Vulcan I'll be happy and I imagine they will too.

Think Vega is going to end up somewhere between the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti (closer to the gtx 1080), which would make it just slightly slower than two RX 480s in CF. If priced competitively it should sell well.

I'm looking forward to it.

I think AMD should do what Nvidia are doing with the 1080ti & 980ti owners and give Fury owners priority :D

Yep 1080 performance for £300 :)
That's fantasy, I'm guessing around 600 if it just beats out the 1080.

It'll depend what Nvidia do with the 1080 pricing once the 1080ti is out. It looks like they'll do what they did with the 980 Ti and release it just before Vega releases.
I imagine that if Nvidia drop a hundred or so off the 1080 AMD will be gutted as they'll need to follow suit or look like they're pricing it too high, Nvidia have had 6 months of over charging their customers, so they'll probably be happy to drop it a bit now, I won't be gutted though, Nvidia forcing AMD to lower there prices is good for me. :D

They will have to undercut nvidia quite significantly if they want to gain any marketshare if performance is only slightly better than the GTX 1080. I also assume AMD have learned their lesson this time around and won't be charging £600 for their top end card, but somewhere around £400-500 (which is GTX 1070 territory). It all depends on performance though, as most people won't bother upgrading if they end up losing a lot of money for a 5-10% gain in performance. >~GTX 1080 performance for £400-500 is my guess.

Agree, if they can match a 1080 then £400-£500 seems about right as Nvidia can and will drop their prices and the 1080 is also not a new product anymore either and Nvidia probably at least now halfway between the 1080 and 1180 launch. If AMD launched a 1080 competiting product 6 months ago then sure they could have asked more for it then too.

Hm, so they are insinuating that it will beat volta when they haven't even got a card out that can beat a pascal high end card yet? ...

Well they certainly sound confident. I hope it doesn't end in embarrassment.

Who said anything about Volta?
Volta, when comes out 2018, it will have to deal with Navi not Vega.

So did Polaris, some.fanboys humbug were having wet dreams about it being faster that 1080 lol

The rest of us kept trying to stop him / her, but to no avail. Kept stoking it up with crazy expectations giving Nvidia fans more and more ammunition to keep going on about it later. But I think you'll find that whilst you had the odd wildly hopeful poster, the huge majority of us predicted that the 480 would be a very good medium chip which would probably beat out Nvidia in the mid-range. Which turned out to be the case.

Shots fired !

'Poor Volta' Lol, go AMD xD

Heh. :D :D :D

I like how they sneaked that into the background of the video leaving it for the super-attentive to catch. Bet someone had fun with that.

Mixed messages from AMD didn't really help - on the one hand they were adamant they were targetting the mid-range "sweet spot" on the other hand dropping hints as if it was much faster.

EDIT: Further complicated by the fact that if the 14nm process at GF had been a bit better (compared to what was possible) they'd have been able to either/or increase power efficiency by about 30% or increase performance by about 20% which would have put the card much more competitive with the 1070.

Their main focus is to target the mid range gp104 laptop/desktop
Chips first.

This sort of marketing campaign only works if you're going to crush the competition. Otherwise, all you are doing is hyping up your customers for a big disappointment, and damaging your reputation to the point where no one believes your products are good, or will be good, because you've cried wolf too many times.

If you don't manage customers' expectations, people will be disappointed when the reality doesn't live up to the hype.

Well they did that before with the "overclockers dream" that was Fury. They'd be a bit daft to try and pull the same stunt again, as it's really going to bury them if VEGA falls flat. I don't think it will based on what's been leaked so far, but you just never know. I certainly take any PR and marketing fluff with much skepticism anyway... proper reviews are all I actually pay attention to. It's a circus until then, albeit an entertaining one.

They'd have to really screw up for it to fall flat now - Polaris is a fairly solid base to work off with a lot of potential for future improvements and GF is now supposedly upto parity with Samsung (and TSMC) for node maturity.

That is the thing ,which i am talking about. They do not even have card ,which can beat Pascal high end and they are talking about Volta in their AD.

It's a bit of giggle. I think it really means they've improved the efficiency of their own products rather than trying to say it's better than Volta but played on it to reek havoc with the minds :). I think it's been an area they've need to improve on, efficiency
