AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

NVidia will already know what is AMDs hand and visa versa.

What AMD could be doing is targeting the 1070 with Vega to start with in the same way as the RX480 targets the 1060. With this in mind there is very little NVidia can do about it with another GP102 card.

There is a lot more money in it for AMD to hit 1070 sales than worry about 1080 and Titan sales.

That makes sense. Maybe they know we're only going to see small Vega, in which case "it is what it is" and there's nothing Nvidia can do about it.

And while everyone assumes Nvidia "knows" through partners or moles (!) or whatever, I also find the other option plausible: that they don't know and would rather wait for AMD to show their hand first. I mean, one of two things could happen: AMD will disappoint in which case it's same old same old, OR AMD have pulled a Ryzen-like miracle and not only are they competitive with Pascal but even Volta. Now, in the latter case they'd be avoiding the embarrassment of having a keynote about the awesome 1080ti, only to have AMD come back the next day and 'drop the mic' on them.

Any way you cut it, there was little reason for Nvidia to make a move right now. It's AMD's turn.

I personally think AMD are not going to divulge anything performance-related. We'll get the run-down on all the new tech inside the chip, but nothing in terms of how well it performs in real world terms.

Trying to watch the ZEN and VEGA topic at the same time :)

So no monitors with freesync 2 announced yet? Really want a 4K 144 Hz HDR IPS monitor (been waiting like 5 years for a HDR gaming monitor). Not really sure what one would upgrade to after that.

The one thing that bothers me about the AMD/Battlefront video is just how bright it all looks. To me seems like they have a lot of the post processing features turned off which would give lots of FPS back..

Compare it to the video posted on the 1080 and look at how much better lighting and shadows look..

The AMD video certainly doesn't look like its at ultra settings with all the bells and whistles turned on as it looks nothing near that bright on my rig.

Nvidia and Asus has already announced a monitor with that capabilities so why upgrade to that?

It is AMD PR ,which is lead by Roy. That guy is the biggest fraud in tech history and that is one the reason i do not buy AMD products.

Luckily all cards will support the new monitors. A lot of people complained about the naming but I think it's very practical.

As a consumer I know my card supports it, but what I want to know what the monitor capabilities are. Freesync was quite lax and allowed everyone to support a different range of capabilities (e.g. LFC does not work on many monitors due to the range chosen). I'd hate to have the same happen in the new generation of HDR monitors. Going forward we'll have "Freesync 2" on new screens to indicate 'proper' support with good ranges and all the lag-improvement tech, as well as the more 'budget' oriented "Freesync". I'd hate to see HDR monitors with input lag because they are all advertised as "Freesync" and I'd blame AMD for not protecting the brand.

Acer also announced one. :) Nvidia doesn't have anything that would fit my price-range to drive those, so I'm hoping for Freesync 2 version (2xVega in Crossfire should do!).

Haven't been this excited in a long time! Finally a decent gaming monitor!

Except the site showed the settings and they were all set to ULTRA and FXAA High. Recording was with a camera and at an angle so not the same as a direct video which would look different depending on which monitor you have.

That'd be very disappointing.
Pretty sure AMD has two cards like before: one to compete with the GTX 1070/GTX1080 and one to compete with the GTX 1080 Ti. Even if Vega outperformed the GTX 1080 Ti (nvidia's internal testing), it still wouldn't make sense for them to launch it already; they already have a very nice lineup that is bringing in a lot of cash, and a month of sales before Vega arrives wouldn't be worth it.
I just hope it isn't going to be a staggered release with Big Vega coming out close to June/July.

Yeah I agree. My next step is 4K. So I want Vega to be somewhere between a 1080 and TXP. ideally. I wouldn't buy a 1070 equivalent.

Alas I am only 1 person.

Rumour that big Vega is capable of upto 4x RX480 performance at 4K but no idea if there is any truth to it or not.

Unless i see the settings in the video itself I would take it with a pinch of salt.

Playing the same level on my PC looks nothing like that.. and the camera would not effect the brightness in such a way.

Edit: I hope I am wrong and this does push the envelope of PC gaming up a level but just cant see it. if Vega comes out and only matches Nvidia for performance even at a cheaper price point I cant see it being a win seeing how long the 1080 has been out.
