At the end of the day there are lots of 1080's at around the £420 price point, from big brands (Zotac AMP!,MSI Armor etc.) , and various sellers - AMD simply have to undercut this with better performance.

As the above post says, I don't believe I'm allowed to hint, however the two sites I saw them on, both are very large and reputable sites.
I saw the one for £410, it is far from reputable looking at the seller, yes it is covered by the bigger/mother of the site but I still wouldn't buy from somewhere that has only 8 "lifetime" reviews.... Plus that brand is supposedly awful too.

The other site is reputable enough according to trustpilot for a gigabyte g1 version at £440. EDIT: Only 1 left at this price too....

Either way, if there are any sub £440 1080's from reputable sites currently, chances are it is a "deal", not the "official" price.

I wouldn't be surprised to see gibbo doing some "deals" on the 10xx series just before vega launches i.e. a 1080 for £450-480 and once vega launches "officially" drop the price to <£450

Easier said than done I'm sure.

As with Intel vs AMD, I know people that will only look at Nvidia Graphics Cards.

This unfortunately means they will need to better them on price or performance, or both IMO.

If they were both the same price, I would PERSONALLY still choose AMD, but that's me, not the majority.

Official price? What the hell is an official price? If there a referee somewhere monitoring these?

Supply and demand, competition in the market place, these prices have been around for over a month. Even OCUK owners have prices like this, but I guess you can't be bothered to look around.

The one I saw is a MSI OC edition for £399. Us NVidia people have great Google Fu :)

I can buy a 1070 for £300 today if I look around.

It needs to be cheaper than this, it's a year late and gives no real incentive if it isn't cheaper. (or at least beat it in performance by 10% or so.)

Unfortunately I can't see that happening, personally I wouldn't even bother with a 1070 competitor and go straight for 1080, 1080ti performance and above.

I have got no problem with it being same price at same performance FPS wise. There are other reason I would like to go AMD next. Software wise and driver wise I think they are doing pretty well compared to Nvidia at moment.

It from all accounts looks like they have got a good number of studios aligned to provide support/partnership over the coming years and they happen to be the ones I play most games from.

Just taking a quick look around and the top 6 or 7 stores I use are £325 + for the cheapest 1070 available (not including cash back). And of that 5 of those stores start at £345 +

That is still generally a saving. And if their target is £300 upon release then that seems fair enough to me. Each to own I suppose but I see no reason that AMD suddenly need to be that much cheaper.

I believe the simple answer is brand perception unfortunately. People generally just seem to prefer Nvidia and will likely choose it if they are the same/similar price and performance.

Official price - the price with out any fancy "one off" deals

Not much good comparing all these one off deals especially cashback when their actual price is still £500+....

It is like me saying that an OLED 55 b/c 6 4k HDR TV for £1379 is the going rate now when in reality it exceptionally rare for the TV to come anywhere close to that as 90% of the time it is priced at £1500+ without any cashback/discount code/price cut for a deal etc. Or like me saying the 290's (before the 970 released) were going for only £250 but there's a catch.... this is only the price when you sell on the 4-5 games that come with it....

And yes because every where like ocuk and its big competitors are selling all these 1080s for sub £420 now, right.... lol.

But hey.... why don't you also factor in the second hand prices instead, I can see numerous 1080's that have gone for <£390 in the members market!!! zOMG VEGA now has to come in at <£300 boys!

Found that one too, great deal but again, not exactly fair to be comparing a one off deal is it?

If you're going to compare like for like with regards to price to performance then do it properly.

I think the only point was that you can go buy a brand new 1080 for £400 today. One off deal or not. That is how much it costs.

Cmon now, you know bringing used prices into this isn't relevant. :p

Maybe but that doesn't provide reason to why people here who know the score still think that AMD should suddenly undercut by £100. We are still talking generally about a £45 undercut as it is which is a good 13% price difference. At what level does this value suddenly get seen as reasonable?

That is a big chunk of margin that AMD are already loosing out on.

You didn't bothered to read the post did you, these prices have been available for over a month, on different brands from different sellers, and I'm not talking about the cashback deals.

But we'd be allowed to compare the prices if OCUK did a one off deal right? ;)
