Some pretty obvious differences in that video if you are looking for it. Colors appear different between cards, shadows are different as well.

I actually preferred the NVidia footage in the video.

This is unusual for me as for gaming I prefer how AMD cards look.

It is almost as if they have got the AMD and NVidia cards the wrong way round.

In gaming it is normally the AMD cards that have the brighter punchier colours.

This has always been my opinion. Gaming on AND cards in my experience have always had stronger colours and cleaner images when I've been in positions to directly compare.

I noticed it when I got my 1070 last summer as I did not have an Nvidia graphics card for many years before that. You get used to it after a while though.

Yup, gaming with my Fury on the LG was the same imo, just ever so slightly but makes a difference. nVidia seems a bit more...muddy.

Probably not too bad a decision. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Vega beats the performance per £ at that price.

I think most people are expecting it to beat the performance per £ of a 1080, if the 1080 is more like £500-550.

I've found that Palit for £425...how does it compare? Is the HSF anygood? Part of me thinks I should wait for Vega and probably price fluctuations.

That's not the point: if you like it without shadows turn them off.

His point is that a bug makes it seem like the 1060 is faster when it isn't...

A friend and I got to compare that as well a few months ago. Was testing my Fury X and the 980Ti in the same system on the same games and we both noticed a difference.

Especially in games like World of Warcraft, Heroes, and more artistic/cartoony games where colours are front and centre.

As for the missing shadows and effects; these posts showed what was missing on the NVIDIA cards before the game's patch. Which as expected knocked down the NVIDIA cards' performance. The gap between RX 580 and GTX 1060 closed from near 30% to 5%.

The Palit fan/heatsink is actually one of the top-tier ones on the GTX 1070/1080. Only downside is it is 2.5 slot, effectively covers 3 slots inside, with a 2 slot bracket. So that could be a problem if you have no room for that.

It still might be worth waiting though. Worst comes to the worst Vega will probably match the performance per £ of a £425 GTX 1080, and you'll lose nothing.

Also if that were to happen, the Vega would still be the better choice. Partly because AMD drivers tend to mature MUCH better than Nvidia's over time (HD 7970 now faster than GTX 780 for example), and Vega will almost certainly outperform a GTX 1080 in DX12 and Vulkan.

So if you want to squeeze out the maximum performance per £, and be future-looking, it is probably worth hanging on longer. Computex is only May 31st.

Have you all checked if Colours are set to 'limited' in Nvidia control Panel?

Nvidia control panel -> display -> change resolution -> select monitor and scroll down -> RGB and output dynamic range: full

It defaults to 'limited' which crushes dynamic range to 16-235 steps per colour, instead of 0-255.

It only does that to HDMI monitors it thinks is a TV. I've always checked and it's only ever been limited on my HBMI monitor with speakers, never Displayport or DVI.

The difference in IQ is still there between the two brands.

Mmmm, I've heard there is noticeable IQ difference for some time.

Making sure the dynamic range is correct does help a tad though. I can notice the difference between limited and full.

It's always full on my monitors, and as mentioned the "bug" where it gets set to Limited is primarily found on HDMI monitors; as for many the drivers thinks it's a TV.
On Apple computers that issue was really severe on NVIDIA cards where you had to change the EDID to get it to use full RGB.

Neither is reason people for over a decade have found a difference in colours and IQ on AMD vs NVIDIA; especially when both are set to Full-RGB

Regarding prey, the game as per usual for the PC scene is broken, screen space reflection settings isn't working properly, in order for it to properly turn on the setting, upon game launch:

- turn off SSP
- hit apply
- turn it back on to full resolution
- hit apply

And when it is properly turned on, you will encounter bad artifacting everywhere pretty much:

Developers on reddit have even confirmed that there is a problem with it:

Have you tried turning off SSR and restarting to see if that resolves it? We're working on a fix for SSR, but in the meantime turning it off has helped people resolve the issue.

As for missing shadows, personally I am seeing a few areas where shadows are missing on my 290 too (using the latest AMD drivers).

Unfortunately this seems to be quite common now with regards to broke/missing graphical effects on release i.e. batman AK, deus ex mankind divided etc.

Essentially, as per usual, PC gamers have to wait for a good 4+ months until they have the game running as it should have been on day 1....

EDIT:

I am definitely missing character shadows.

And I took a screenie of that helicopter area too:

Hard to say how it compares since the one above is zoomed in and not from the same angle.

Are you running at Very High settings and Shadows in that area?
It was noticed that once you drop from Very High to High, the chopper scene and many shadows disappear for some reason, dev bug I suspect.
