just call the store they will know I am sure Gibbo has a few hidden away ;)

Ok when they open tomorrow I will ring them first thing. I really need a credit card. :)

My specs (the ones that matters) so far are DFI mobo sk939, 2gb xms 3500LL ram, 74gb raptor, 250gb sata II hitachi HD, 2 optical drives (DVDRW DL), pci TV DVB-T card, the pci-e dual TV card, audigy 4 sound card, wi-fi card, and ofcourse with 4 LED 80mm silenX fans and 2 cold cathodes.

So the only things that will not be compatible with conroe are the motherboard (£150) and the Ram which was a nice £250 for here in fact.

Would it be worth scrapping the ram and mobo and going for conroe or should I hunt down the x4800+

go for conroe, you'll be so depressed when you realise you've bought last years tech...

I've been building this computer for a year. I'm doing my a-levels and work one day a week at ****** earning £160/month. This PC has cost me (with overtime) nearly £2500.

I would be wasting £400. But say I went for conroe, I would go for E6700 £410, XMS2-6400C4 £200. A lot more money and not enough hours at work.

get the cheapest conroe then upgrade in six months, conroes are the most expensive they will be at the moment and the e6700 could well drop by more than the cost of the e6300 and if you wanted to you could overclock the e6300 which has been known, i believe, to then beat an x24800

Seriously, check out a few benchies. tomshardware is a good start, conroes are very good for the money.

I am in the same conundrum and i am tempted by a 4800 but conroes are the best, low price, lower power consumtion and very good processing power.

Conroes are just a much better technical solution.

great... 4800, out of stock  i have even already sold my current cpu to make way, i realy hope ocuk get more of these in stock so i can order one

Hi there

Please don't call the store first thing as sales people don't purchase products so don't have a clue if we will get more.

These processors are EOL and at such great price they all sold very quick!

I will attempt to source more 4800's but think it may be difficult, maybe it will be a good idea to get X2 4400 whilst they are still about as good price as those too overclock to FX60/62 levels. :)

so basically then you have no planned delivery of 4800s then at the current moment in time ?

suppose il just have to make do with a 4400 instead then, not happy one bit, dont get paid until tomorrow and iv been checking the website all day to make sure they remain in stock :(

was going to get up at 6 in the morning to order one aswel :p

gibbo, u sure u haven't got one lying around u could source for me :D

Well I have managed to order a 4800+ from work. I talked to my mate on ********* buisness and he has managed to get me one which I can pick up at work on saturday.

It's a shame I couldn't get one from here but I'll still be getting my graphics card from here as well as my CPU cooler. Anyone here recommend one for the 4800+, I only want to overclock it 200MHz.

i have read a few good reviews about it and i think it looks preety cool, but isnt it a bit more expensive, the ac64 is a bargain at £11 and i will be ordering one in the morning along with a 4400

yes thanks for trying to help but you might want to remove that link otherwise i dont thing the mods will be too happy, would rather order from ocuk anyway as there are a few other bits i am ordering

Gibbo - if you manage to sort anything on getting some 4800's in let me know asap plz, i'l be watching this thread closely !

I have at the moment an AMD 4000+ running at stock 2.4

If it bought a 4800+ which runs at 2.4 would I see a performance gain

On my PC???

not really unless you multi task and use video encoding etc...

In windows you would see loads of difference - multitasking etc.

In games you would see a bit of an performance increase, as you will be running antivirus, windows, firewall maybe in the background - the other core will run these, leaving the remaining more just for the game.

Also its a lot more future proof than the 4000.
