AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

lol that has been said fooorrrreeeevvveeeerrr. By the times games use more than say 8 cores on something like a 9900K, both it and the 3900X will be a distant memory.
Or next year, when consoles are based off of Zen 2 architecture.
Until now, console processing power has been woefully under powered compared to what PCs can do, and so multi-platform games have never pushed this side of things. I'm only just upgrading from a 2600k; a processor that has lasted me longer than a console generation! If you pick an Zen 2 processor now, then I don't see how that wouldn't last the upcoming console generation.

These are my thoughts exactly. The next 1-2 years where games start making use of threads more and more, I think the old Intel parts will drop off quickly in performance.

That is why I am trying to hold out till DDR5/PCIE 5.0 tbh. That drops in 2021 I feel tbh then I can see myself finally moving forward. In interim I might upgrade my 980 just cause the 4GB RAM but then I can go 5700XT next year for likely £200-£250 second hand.

Aye but for those whom are wanting to upgrade because it has been 5-7 years since then this could be an option and then last another 5-7 years tbh.

It depends on your upgrade cycle.

Never quite understood this logic - by the time DDR5/PCIE 5.0 come out why not then wait for DDR6/PCIE 6.0 or the next big thing. Could play the waiting game forever.

I ordered a b450 carbon gaming AC board, as for the money on paper it's a great board to be paired with a 3600.

However...the BIOS is giving me mixed emotions,

The BIOS is in beta stage atm, they've stripped out some old CPU compatibility (not fussed at all), but also RAID (again, not fussed) but reports are they've dropped some of the fan control stuff?, and its down to the BIOS chip size, it isn't big enough, is this stripped down beta bios going to cause stability issues?

My concern is how does this affect things moving forward, how much time are MSI going to put into updating their older board BIOS to support the Zen 2 chips.

Half tempted to return and just buy the MPG X570 GAMING PLUS :/.

Suspect is B die so should clock very well or be able to run even tighter timings.

Boom, thanks Gibbo. Yeah I am pretty sure it's the Samsung b-die, I just never thought to OC it as I thought there wouldn't be any headroom on a platform that is a little flaky with memory.
