AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

I ordered a b450 carbon gaming AC board, as for the money on paper it's a great board to be paired with a 3600.

However...the BIOS is giving me mixed emotions,

The BIOS is in beta stage atm, they've stripped out some old CPU compatibility (not fussed at all), but also RAID (again, not fussed) but reports are they've dropped some of the fan control stuff?, and its down to the BIOS chip size, it isn't big enough, is this stripped down beta bios going to cause stability issues?

My concern is how does this affect things moving forward, how much time are MSI going to put into updating their older board BIOS to support the Zen 2 chips.

Half tempted to return and just buy the MPG X570 GAMING PLUS :/.
I'd have thought a sensible solution would be to run two parallel UEFI versions: one for Ryzen 1/2 and one for Ryzen 3, and that the current beta versions are a fudge just to get it working. However, we don't know what MSI's support for these older boards will be going forward. I'm hoping they don't leave it in that state but who knows.

MSI could in theory have just a Zen 2 BIOS for these older boards...however the world is full of "special people", who won't read the fine print and just flash the Zen 2 BIOS to the board and cry when it doesn't boot their Older Ryzen CPU's, it'll save MSI a lot of headache to just not do that unfortunately :(

Have spoken to ***** and *****. Apparently despite the demand, AMD still haven't shipped any more than the initial 3700x batch to the UK. I get the impression they're still waiting for confirmation that it's even been dispatched.

With ***** saying 19th-21st of July, let's hope they don't have more information than the other vendors. Otherwise, we're in for a bit of a wait yet...

Can't comment on the situation in any other countries, but I get the impression this is a common theme.

They've dropped the fan control curve but not the ability to actually control it, you just need to key in the values.

I prefer this anyway I never understood the appeal of messing around with a curve in the BIOS.

They are going to release a lot of their older boards with the branding 'max' which means they'll have a 32MB BIOS.

I'm still going with the B450m Mortar now because there's basically no options for MicroATX otherwise even on X570.

I've seen another large computer part retailer expecting a whopping shipment of 32 3700Xs on Thursday.

Utter **** show from AMD this. So bloody worried about their NDA the reviews and supply ultimately suffer.

Forget the second batch of R7 3700Xs, the initial batch hasn't even arrived yet! Shambles. Why not just use the 7/7 fun marketing date for Navi and leave Zen 2 until mid-July if they're not ready??

Tried it both on and off, it's still working fine with my 1700, so must be a issue either in bios with these new chips or my board, guess I'll order a b450/x470 from rainforest and see

Looks like a bios issue a few people with the same problem as you on the gigabyte forum.

I basically said this on here weeks ago.....

Although we do have "quantity" on its way its not here for launch.... even 3900X which we ended up getting way more on the Monday for launch we had 10 units to arrive before Sunday...

3700X and 3800X are exactly as Gibbo has posted... We got the most stock.... We are awaiting couriers.... Nothing else we can do really... We are chasing this all the time...

Reviewers did not get early either.... The opposite which in my book did not help them produce quality materials....

No one is blaming OCUK......

Linus regularly attacks AMD for their Sunday launches. Says its a nightmare as his staff have to work all weekend bench marking. Because they only get the chips at the weekend. It's just stupid. Same for retailers. Don't know what AMD are playing at.
